I have always gone for a chicken tika masala being scard to venture into the unknown.

Tonight.... Im feeling rather adventurous.

I want something hot but eatable.

Im eying up the Madras and Dansak, the latter being still rater mild.

Any recomendations?

Dansak shouldn't be mild. It is known to be sweet, hot and sour. I tend to go for Rezala which is a medium sauce but has fried green chilis thrown in as a livener.

Ask them to do something different for you, they love it when asked.

Dhansak, as has already been said, shouldn't be mild. It should have a thick sauce made from lentils and is one of my favourites...

South Indian garlic curries I love too - either lamb or chicken is great.

My ex often asked the local Indian Restaurant to tweak the curries for him making them hotter. Oh how I used to laugh if the chef was being more than generous with the chillies hehe

Have any of you 'curry' lovers eaten at/from a restaurant in a predominantly Indian area such as Southall, Kingsbury, Birmingham?

I'm amazed that many people who say they love a curry will settle for a take-away which will be drowned in oil - and love it.

Shouldn't be any oil in a curry. Can be lots of ghee though.

Most curry houses with the name Balti in it or its menu will serve oil-rich ste.

The Shahi Nan Kebab (opposite Southall BR) is a scruffy-looking takeaway with a few tables outside. Don't be deterred. The food is awesome, and incredibly cheap.

Build up a thirst in advance at the nearby Glassy Junction Punjabi pub. thumbup

hmmm, well I cant really say one curry is best

either

buttered chicken
chicken madras
chicken akbori [orangy, cocunuty and just oohhh so good]
or something randomly picked for a new taste

my typical curry conisists of
4xpapadoms with mango chutney
rice [sometimes the funny different coloured rice, sometimes plain]
chicken tikka starter
onion bahji
[insert one meaty dish from above]
naan bread 1xplain 1xmeaty
saag aloo [potato bahji]

yes I do looove a curry

Brinjal lamb is a favourite of mine. Aubergine carries flavour so well and gives a great thick consistency to the sauce. Tender lamb, not tikka, naturally.
