Well I am meeting an old flame who I haven't seen for nearly a year for a dinner.

So wanting a nice romantic location.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in Grimsby?

I know, I know.

I don't know what I am expecting to hear now.

I have crossed off the MacDonalds as I think it should be a little bit classier than this.

Having just left Grimsby after 13 years there on and off, errrrr... no.

Wintringham Fields if you don't mind travelling a bit, it'll have to be a guarenteed leg over at those prices though. Failing that, the VKH.

Ha Ha. Discovered that is a kebab house.

Winteringham fields is a bit too posh really.

Is there really no restaurants at all?

Yes I believe I have ordered my vertical fish taco already.

I live 20 miles from Grimsby and I'm all too aware of lack of decent restaurants frown

We head into Lincoln for a decent night out, the Old Bakery is simply fantastic although there is a good 2 week wait to get a table. There are also some decent places in Louth which we often go to so you aren't entirely stuck for choice!

Likewise been to Louth when we've been racing at Cadwell and there have been some good eateries. I did once go to a chinese restaurant on the seafront in Cleethorpes I think which was a modern building opposite McDonalds I think? Can't really remember what it was like as I was there with a rugby team and pretty half cut, but I didn't get sick so thats always a bonus smile

whens the meal? i work nr grimsby but don't know the area, but a guy in the office lives in the sticks and goes to a lot of villagey places and often eats out in brigg / barton. he's not in today though.

problem is that n.lincs is a local place for local people. they're not too good on advertising and the web is all new fangled.

some nice country pubs around. take her to brandy wharf cider centre if you fancy getting her pished and reigniting the old flame wink

Not until the 8th.

So plenty of time, so ask around if possible.

All help gratefully received.

If Lincoln is an acceptable venue for you Browns Pie Shop at the top of Steep Hill has been very good when I've eaten there, but it's 3 or 4 years since I did.

I'm sure it's very nice but the name doesn't conjure up a romantic image.

Mind you, a girl from Grimsby might be quite excited at the thought of "Pie Shop". smile

Seems to be still going, much more to the menu than just pies, and a more romantic venue than you might think from the name

Not cosily romantic but rather a bit more bustling, lovely food although the waitresses do seem to have a bit of attitude for some strange reason, would certainly recommend it.

Have decided on this place. I will book a table next week.

The menu does indeed sound very nice. Not what I expected with the name Browns Pie Shop.

Will report back on how the meal was. Thanks
