If you really don't like water, focus on proper isotonic drinks. Medical ones, not commercial crap. You may not like it, but you'll have to drink less. Some are quite nice, really refreshing, but each to their own.

Did they disclose the exact reason you have to drink more? If it is just dehydration, then tea and coffee should be avoided for obvious reasons and some not so obvious. Juice, most of the time, will make things worse, as will sugar in tea/coffee. There is a thread on isotonic drinks on this forum or the health one. It should also be noted, that just drinking water, without sufficient electrolytes, will make you more dehydrated. Oh, and kidney failure due to dehydration is very, very, unpleasant and life threatening...

Most of the information you read on the internet about water intake is utter drivel and most of it originates from research many years ago that indicated that people need to drink about 2l of water a day.. Which most water companies gawd bless 'em have taken as carte blanche to sell you 'volcanic fresh naturally aspirated dehydrogentaed, transfatty acid free ..' - I get a bit carried away here, it is one of my pet hates. Anyway the research did go on to say that most liquid intake is actually acquired through food. The need to drink lots of water for most healthy people is simply not there.

If you feel thirsty - drink more. Do a simple pee test. If it comes out a strong yellow colour drink more. Not really difficult. But be sensible and add a little more. It really is not healthy to drink excessive amounts of liquid - buggers up body chemistry and balance.

Of course, if you can't really stomach water - which is also true of my partner as it make her literally throw up, eat more wet food; soups, stews, casseroles etc.

As for the tea, coffee thing. Just a thought. Most people from the hot countries I know are prodigious tea drinkers ( > 45c in summer ) and they tend to drink black tea pretty much all day, rarely water or cold drinks. You don't tend to hear of much dehydration in places like that.

google for Leah Betts if you want to know what happens when you overdose on water, as it is "good" for you, dying from swelling of the brain is not a nice way to kill yourself frown
