£30 ? For one person ? You don't shop economically do you ? We (a family of 4) spend £60 (give or take £5) each week and eat well enough.

I've always thought it's about having a (set of) decent Standard Operating Manuals (The recipe books) and a list of 7 days worth of meals, so that when you go shopping you know exactly what you want, but be flexible enough that if you see something on offer, you can take advantage.
You're probably right, its been 13 years since I was 'studenting' and I haven't had to count pennies too closely in recent times. But I've lived off feck all in the past and ate quite well.

I completely agree with the 7 day meal planning and still do that today. A decent store cupboard allows you to take advantage of offers and chop and change meals if you don't fancy a particular one on the day.

jammiedodger26 Very good. I went for the pepper with roasted tomatoes video. Can you make it with any tomatoes? I could not see from the packet which type you had used, also how long to you roast them for?

Do student have hand blenders? Is there an option if you do not own a blender? Maybe removing the skins after roasting an mashing with a wooden spoon, might make it a bit chunkier but not really a problem. I might have a go of this myself.

Good vids, I like the interactive bit.

Excellent idea guys, really like the style and methods used, I'd have the recipe available as well rather than having to click through the video smile

Tesco do "Value" hand blenders for less than a fiver, and egg whisks too. I'm pretty sure that Sainsburys and Asda also do a similar deal.

I received a hand blender as a Christmas present (I asked for it redface ) so finally got a chance to try the tomato and pepper soup.

I used:
3 small garlic cloves, chopped
1 medium white onion, roughly chopped
1 Knorr stock pot (jelly type stockredcard)
1 jar of chopped tomatoes with basil and oregano
2 red peppers, roughly chopped
boiling water

Followed the instructions (easy) and whizzed it up with the blender.

I must say that is the best soup I have ever tasted bowyum

Sainburys do lots of these cartons of chopped tomatos with added ingredients like Basil & onions, garlic and oilive oil, Basil & Oregano etc and only 59p less hassel than roasting fresh tomatoes and cheaper as fresh are 96p for 6, not much difference but when on a student budget may help.
