The best place round Solihull/Knowle is the Blackboy pub on the far side of Knowle. PROPER home made pub food. Its a lovely little place by the canal you can sit outside and eat and have a nice drink.

oh boy , went there last year around november time , didnt really impress me at all. I think the herrings nest (round the corner) is better of the two.

Depends what you're looking for. There's now a Nando's at The Fort so no need to go to Stab City. There are some nice places in Coleshill as people have said.
If you're after a dirty takeaway then find a Big John's. It's a drive-through chippy but does loads of stuff. There's one on Cook's Lane just down the road from you. The pizza's there are incredible!
If you can be arsed, head to the Mailbox there's a few nice places there. As above; Solihull/Knowle as well.

Really?! Im suprised to hear that as Ive been to almost every pub/bar/restaurant around here and its been one of the top contenders every time. What let it down for you? Maybe everywhere has their off days.

If you're going to Shirley then there's only one place - Veli's!

(now know as Shirley Kebab House) - so good it has it's own Facebook appreciation group! Mine's a doner in naan please!

What about chinese?

There is a wing wah restaurant in nechells. Not to far from you.

Seconded.

About a 5 minute drive from where you are.

If you fancy a bit of a drive, I was going to suggest Lapworth, but thats probably half an hour from the hotel.
Should have said, you could have come to my house for tea!

Think there are 2 chinese restaurant in the Wing Yip Centre, I prefer the one on the left - can't remember what it's called now though... don't go for the buffet though - ask for the hot pot yum

Honestly think that'd be your best bet if you don't want to travel far.

Don't know if anyone can shed any light on the Glass Lounge which is on the 1st floor of Fort Dunlop - they don't seem to have a website though, so wouldn't want to send you on a wild goose chase.

The Fat Cat in Solihull is excellent and I would recommend it highly, I take customers there.

Black Boy near Knowle isn't the best TBH. It is the Heron's Nest around the corner from there (someone said Herrings) but I would go for the Red Lion in Knowle for pub food.

There is a Loch Fyne in Knowle and the Bilash (Indian) on the High St is good too.

Coze'ill I am not sure about, never eaten there.

Try the Grimstock Hotel, Restaurant Ambience or the Coleshill Hotel.

Agreed with the above. If you don't mind going 5 minutes further up the road there's The Plough in Shustoke which is decent pub food, or further in the same direction (about another 5 minutes) you have The Bull in Furnace End which has just been revamped and is very nice indeed I went the other night.

After all that, you'll never guess where "we" decided to go!!

Stab City in the end!! hehe

The idea was to have pizza hut and then go and play mini golf, but as she was working late (well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it wink ) we didn't get to golf in time!!

Thank you for the recommendations guys - I might be back in the area in a couple of weeks and will refer back if I am.

Cheers
