I'm sorry, I appear to have derailed this entire thread by a single mention of alcohol! smile

Scotch pies are ace, although you have to be careful where you buy they, some are filled with what can only be described as dog food!

As to drinking whisky with water/lemonade/coke, no,no,no.

The only thing that should be added to whisky is more whisky.biggrin

Although chasing a glass of clearic(sp) with an equal measure of water is acceptable round there parts.

Water (in varying amounts) will reveal a huge amount of flavour in certain whiskies, particularly cask strength drams. If you don't like whisky with water in then fair enough but if you haven't tried it, I suggest you should!

Best pies I ever had were made by Shorts in Shawlands, Glasgow. Unfortunately no longer there I understand.

Boyhood memories. A pie and a cup of Bovril at half time at Ibrox, standing with my Dad, my Granda and my wee brother. I can still taste/smell the combination and that's over forty years ago now.

Don't know what happened there?

I haven't acquired a taste for Whisky, I'm just repeating what my workmates say.
But I do love the smell of Whisky, which is just as well as I've had my head in a spirit safe fixing a spout most of yesterday, and it looks like most of todayy aswell.

Nnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! yikes

As its my profession to sell drinks to people. I just can not bring myself to put anything but water or ice in a single malt. The closest I have come to putting a mixer in is to give the person a glass of coke and a malt in a separate glass. I just cant put them in the same glass its just sacrilege.

Bells or grouse on the other hand I will serve with what ever you want in it as long as we sell it behind the bar.

Jesus wept man, don't be such a tragic snob! You're only a bloody bartender after all, not a sommelier - and if you can't "bring yourself" to give the people paying your wages what they ask you for, then you should probably contemplate alternative employment.
I worked behind the bars of several very posh restaurants/country clubs/golf clubs when at University, and happily gave the punter what they wanted. It wasn't my job to pretend to know better than them, it was my job to give them a drink...
