Did anyone see this tonight? There were a handful of people with a bit of potential but they were mostly clueless.

The two blonde guys who run a cocktail bar were fools of the highest order and when one winked at Raymond he didn't take too kindly to it!

All in all, probably the making of a good series once it develops a bit.

Yep, it was quite a comedy. What where those women doing trying to open tins with a knife, more Baden Powel than Raymond Blanc

Wogan will have a field day at their expense tomorrow morning.

The funny thing about those two was just how seriously they were taking themselves.

I like Sarah Willingham and admire her success in business. She clearly needs to practice safe sex though as she appears to be pregnant! It wasn't me, unfortunately!

He has a series to finish, he could not kick them all out - it must have been a touch choice !

fk me, how hard can it be?!

Think of a theme
Think of a name
Work on a dish that YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN MAKE - practise until perfect
Make dish
Tell Raymond, bh and Metro about the theme, name, dish

If you can't even manage that, why the fk would you even consider applying for the show?!?!

I could go into my kitchen now and russle up something in 60mins better than those idiots managed.

25mins boiling fresh peas.....ffs!

Potential and selective editing would be my guess...

I've been waiting for this programme to air for a while, as the producers took over quite a few restaurants that we regularly eat out in earlier this year.

Blancs brasserie in Bristol is a quality place to eat in, the food is 'great' but the service is second to none.

It's going to be interesting to see where the 'local produce' couple fayre. Raymond says at best restaurants get 30% of produce locally, yet I know that a restaurant within a mile of me (pumphouse) claims to do nearer 90%. There are a LOT of farm shops near here, but the fools mainly shopped in Asda lol.

I think the trouble with these local produce %s is how far they actually take it.

For example; is a chicken that's reared 5 miles from your restaurant that's fed on corn grown 100 miles away classed as local? Some say yes, some say no.

I thought they were all pretty pants on the day with the exception of the ladies that did the mutton nigerian stew thing. None of them looked particularly credible as restaurateurs. Some of that could be put down to nerves though I suspect.

Oh, and i've just found 2 new hate figures. Blonde and blonder. They strike me as wkers of the highest order.

And yet the one in Cheltenham was bloody hideous. How can a "French" bistro not have mustard ? How can someone serve a beetroot and goat's cheese tart on pastry that is not even cooked.

Whilst Blanc as a chef is outstanding, all the crap about "Eeet is my name on the door, my maman would be outraged if I served bad food" stuff is nonsense. He, like so many others, is just as much at the mercy of stupid staff and incompetent chefs as anyone. And he clearly doesn't care enough to actually check these places out.

Plus anyone who has the gall to advertise a "Maman Blanc's miscellany of salads" needs a word in his coquille-like about being pretentious.

What was Baldy on about with the "looks like a restaurant dish" with the fondant ?

Blob of cream + tinned mandarin segment + mint leaf = THISISNTTHESODDINGEIGHTIESMATE

Still, good telly smilesmile

Surprised that there was no comment on this on PH yet today. Maybe I am the only one still watching.

Last night's episode was dire. The Badger and Barrington guys seemed to be the best (of a pretty bad bunch) and they bowed out for reasons I didn't really get (can't handle social situations outside the army- but was the best front of house by far?)

As for the others - customer complaints met with "well I guess we won't see you here again then" and "it's ok, you don't eat on that side of the plate" - but still made it through to next week?

This years bunch of try-ers really are awful, aren't they?

If I were the celebrated Monsieur Blanc, I'd have walked out in the first programme, as they are all rubbish. None of the couples are in any way exciting, and I can't see anyone making a decent fist of running a successful restaurant.

That said, outside of Le Manoir - which is truly excellent - Raymond hasn't made a success of other restaurants - he sold Le Petit Blanc chain.

It clashes with River Cottage now, which I much prefer

I guess that is a non-BBC programme (just googled and I see it's C4)

I'm in Belgium and my viewing is limited to BBC1 and 2, or english films on the dutch channels smile

Shame as I miss things like this, Come Dine With Me etc...

Ray's been stitched up good and proper guvnor - it's almost as if they've deliberately selected the most inept group they could find - and he's got to go into business with them...

I thought the whole Barrington and Badger thing was really sad. There is clearly a lot we haven't seen and the poor guy clearly felt he was out of his depth and his comfort zone BUT as someone else remarked he was fantastic and clearly the best front of house by far.

I suppose the assumption must be that he is suffering from some sort of PTSD or at lease a difficulty in leaving the "institutionalised" culture of the forces.

Poor guys, I really hope that they find things that work for them. For me they were the best couple there.

I can't believe that the two "winkers" are still in.

B&B I was disappointed when those two got kicked, good cook, great FoH.

What do we have left

The telly Tubies - Probably the strongest apart from the Mrs who doesn't actually seem to like food.
The blond boys - terrible, the chef doesn't cook and they are so arrogant.
The Nigerian girls - It's just not a fly-er, I'd try it but they seem to have westernised it too much to the point of bland
The Rude man - the chef is good but FoH sucks really badly. Out next week I think.

Great TV though!
