That's a bit libellous... unless you're talking about the milkshakes.

Worse quality, not the percentage which just refered to the sausages, but I've edited it anyway for commercially sensitive gourmets like yourself.

You're right. Your average fresh breakfast sausage like Richmond ones are 42% meat and anyone who's ever been to McDonalds has had more MRM than that.

I would still eat them. Sure some foods are pretty grim when you look closely at what they are made of but the truth is that hot dogs like wot I ad as a kid are pretty epic when they are in a warm hotdog roll with fried onions, ketchup and that bright yellow mustard from a squeezy bottle.

As above, I love a good hot dog in a roll covered in buttered onions and doused in ketchup and mustard.

Sod the ingredients, it tastes nice and doesn't hurt once in a while. You could get hung up on alot of foods if you wanted to, like pork pies, scotch eggs, burgers, sausages etc.

I watched a program on that once. I think it was presented by that gimp hardeep sing-koli(sp?)

It was perhaps a specially selected donor meat factory but the stuff that went in was of a pretty high quality. It certainly changed my opinion slightly anyway.

I'm sure it isn't representative of the whole industry though.

I'm not too bothered what goes into them however the taste of canned hotdogs has got worse over the years, the texture has changed as well, they are far more mushy.

I only eat the herta ones now that are found in the fridge section, they are very good.

Andy

I do like the Herta ones but they are very calorific. Must be a lot of fat in them I guess.

Well i'm sure some of them are high quality.

Some of them though- well a lot of meat in the UK is declared not fit for human consumption (such as cysts and other nasties), but what continues to happen is that these bits are exported to Turkey where food controls are far less strict, turned into Dono Kebabs and sent back to the UK. Really not good.

If you have to have a kebab at least have a Shish kebab- it might not be meat from the best kept animals but at least its identifiable as an animal!

This may demonstrate huge naivety on my part but anyway. Surely to sell food goods in the UK, irrespective of where they were produced, they have to adhere to UK quality control? Otherwise I could export kittykitmcst cat food, repackage it as beef stew and import it back into the UK?

According to a show on BBC3 on this very subject, some food has EU enforced standards, such as a beef burger must contain a minimum of 40% odd cow meat, and more likely to be found at your local midnight burger van. From one of the cash and carries, sold a box that came to 17p per paddy.

A hotdog does not have much of any control of what meat content or animal goes into it, and a Chicken Kiev has no real standard, so can be made with 10% MRE chicken, and still be legally called a Chicken Kiev.

That show was an eye opener. If I could actually remember when I last ate a ready-made Chicken Kiev I think I'd have been redecorating the living room. vomit

Remember folks:
Butter, Garlic, Mortar and Pestle. Clingfilm, then freezer.
Chicken breast, insert knife, insert garlic butter, flour, egg, and breadcrumb.
20 - 25 mins at 200 degrees.
yes Proper Job!

Well, in the old days people used to think (say) butchers used dog meat (seriously)
and when heated them they became hot.

Now we know they're not made of dog meat, BUT much, much worse.

HTH.
