Another weekend away, the Marriott at Lingfield Park wanted £15.90 each for breakfast, so we decamped to Wetherspoons in East Grinstead and fed three this plate each with drinks for the price of one at the hotel.

£3.60 for this......

£13 for 2 of these with tea and coffee. Not the cheapest but quality is always decent at this place.

Here in East Glasgow we put beans in a wee pot. A steel spot. I HATE the feeling, sound of a fork or knife on this wee pot.

Friend runs a vegan place, so when we’re all hungover on Sunday, he’s a great friend to have

That looks absolute top hole.

Other pics on this page... I love a Spoons breakfast but that bacon looks a bit dodge, free tea / coffee refils for £1.35 not to be sniffed at. Vegan breakfast rofl

That all looks good - although for me, I’d ditch the avocado. I can’t stand the stuff.

This morning’s effort (I suppose it’s really lunch, if we go off the time, but I’ve had a lie in and it’s the first thing I’ve eaten, so I’m going with it being breakfast).

It’s “Strammer Max”, literally “Strapping Max”. GF is from Hamburg and tells me this is their regional(ish) version of it, although I had muffins that needed using, so I went for them instead of rye bread, which is also good when toasted and liberally smothered in butter (as are most things, to be honest!).

Muffins (toasted and buttered), scrambled eggs, brown shrimp, ground black pepper/Icelandic rosemary salt again and Thomy brand Hollandaise sauce. It’s not pretty, but it tasted great. I’m off out to view a house in a bit, then a “few” beers after that, so this should set me up nicely. Especially as there’s really enough for two!

Again, the photos are a bit disappointing if I’m honest. It was much yellower (in a good way) in real life.

I'd eat and enjoy that, but when I was introduced to Strammer Max (inner German Border patrols, late 80s) I seem to recall it was ham and fried eggs on bread/toast. Very delicious it was too.

i would eat the shrimps and egg without the vomit sauce.

Fish (or crustaceans) in breakfast have fallen out of favour in the UK.

Probably due to the price of them. Any worthwhile amount of shrimp, prawns or fish in general is expensive when compared with other breakfast options.

On that theme, Lidl's smoked Basa fillet is a dead ringer for smoked haddock at half the price.

It seems Strammer Max is one of those dishes that’s found all over, with various regional “options”. And of course, everyone claims “their” version as the original one and therefore the best.

Agree. Smoked haddock is also great for breakfast with poached egg

A Mexican inspired breakfast this morning.

Tortilla wrap with eggs, tomato, avocado, Monterey Jack cheese and Yellow Bird habanero hot sauce.

The wife is away so a long walk in the fields with the dog followed by this. A great start to the day.

Sorry, don't know why it's not the right way up!

Home made muesli today, given a good milk soak overnight in the fridge.

Enjoyed it, but would have made a very boring photo.
