Do you drink too much / little?
Discussion
I drink too much, I know this because I tend to make excuses nowadays. ie
a) I had a bad day at work
b) my wife is going out later so it would be nice to have the house to myself (not counting the beer)
c) I need to go to the petrol station for er, some petrol, but while I am at it ..
Other classic signs are buying the basics bottles of spirits, I got one yesterday that was plastic! Also those carton wines are not to be laughed at anymore, seems a waste paying for packaging....
This week I found some half price Gold Label Barley cans ( 8.5%) at the offy so bought them with lemonade as they taste like syrup .. yuck .. turned out they were drinkable without. This shows how far I have deteriated.
Funnily enough last year I went to the doctors to get a liver check expecting the worst and they said I was fine. I couldn't wait to get home to celebrate you know how
It is a slippery slope though. I can still function at work or with the family though, indeed we have just got a dog which is getting me fitter (and he knows his way to the off licence without being told now*).
When you start worrying about one aspect of it then that is a sign mentally you KNOW. Giving up is another matter though.
Regards
Andy

None during the week whilst away working.
Fri, Sat, Sun couple of beers share a bottle of wine with wife. Christmas period only, a bottle of Glenmorangie.
For too many years it was a little different...
Mon to Sun 6-8 pints followed by 3-6 BMW's.
Thurs, Fri, Sat night as above then maybe go out.
Needless to say my wallet and me are now happier souls.
Don't miss the excess at all.

Could easily fall into proper damaging drinking. Have fallen into bad habits -few cans of 5% beer every night plus a glass of wine here and there.
But thankfully, (a) I go off it when I've drunk a lot over a month or so. (b) I got into running and cut back massively to lose weight and run faster/longer.
Currently drinking not much more than 20 units per week.

I used to drink everyday. At least a couple of pints with more at the weekend and spirits too
Nowadays I drink only on Fridays and Saturdays. Literally, a couple of pints each night. I haven't drank spirits for years and I don't drink wine.
I'm thinner now.
If I go out for a meal during the week for a special occasion or work event I'll have a few drinks - it's not like I'm limiting myself.
I just don't feel the need to drink everyday. In the same way I don't feel the need to eat takeaways everyday.

I guess I kept myself busy with 'certain other activities' during my party phase and was as fit as a fiddle (Im sure my liver would argue that point). Now however my stomach is showing signs of spoiling my otherwise skinny disposition I just don't feel the need to drink everyday.

I obviously need to break the habit, Im thinking fitness equipment and trackdays should get me back in trim - as well as focusing the mind a little better.
I wouldn't have thought it was bad enough for the Docs and tests, I just decided to stop for a week, but I did really fancy a drink earlier
Ordinarily I average just about the weekly level for men, 21 units or so. Day to day it varies, depending on whether a bottle of wine has been opened and if I drink the bulk of it, rather than half of it. Or if I go out properly with friends and eat out, and I'm not driving.
Compared to what some folks have posted, I can't be an alcy at that level

For some reason, I decided on Sunday to go without for a week.
Similar for me, BG. Although I thought this on Saturday. Not had anything thus far and feel good for it TBH. It's not been a problem to go without and to be fair, I didn't think it would be.Edited by lazyitus on Wednesday 25th November 15:22

"So would you say your average intake of alcohol is more than 25 or so units?"
to which the answer is obviously.....
