i took on board anna's comment t'other week about inserting a little heston into the contest, so took a few recipes [hence differeing measurements!] apart to create:

spiced fig and toasted walnut tart with blue cheese ice cream

for the icecream, bring 550ml double cream to nearly boiled, then add 4egg yolks and 1/2 cup of caster sugar which has been beaten until fluffy. simmer until thickened then add 100-120g [to taste] of crumbled gorgonzola. freeze overnight.

make a shortcrust pastry shell in a 9" flan tin. remember the bloody pastry weights!

put 500g dried figs in a pan with a bottle of red wine, 2 star anise, a large cinammon stick, 12 black peppercorn and 12 juniper berries, and some orange peel. bring to boil then simmer until the wine disappears and the figs are plump. remove stalks and slice lengthways.

take 1 cup walnuts and toast in a heavy pan. when browned, add 4tsp salt and a generous knob of butter. fry for 1min.

mix figs and walnuts with 1/2cup of honey. line the pastry case and bake at 200deg for 10-15mins.

serve warm with the icecream.

apologies for the ste pic again, best i can do with a camera phone and blown lighting circuits [don't bloody ask!]. and yes, it did fall off my knee shortly afterwards!

ETA: had never eaten a fig in my adult life before. they are nom-nom-nom tasty! the combnation of those and the salted walnuts was lovely.

the blue cheese icecream needs investigation. i used tesco finest gorgonzola picante. there was a hefty fat layer i had to scrape off the top before serving and whilst it tasted lovely it was also quite greasy. recipe said to use only gorgonzola but i would experiment with somthing less fatty if poss.

My submission would be

4 ripe banana
2-3 tbsp dark brown sugar
1/2 pint double cream
1/2 pint milk
4 floz dark rum

Add above to blender, blend until smoothe, pour into glass(es), drink - Mmmmm :hic:

Unfortunately, out of rum frown

Afraid nothing from me this week. Haven't had a spare 2 seconds to whip anything up.
TBH couldn't get my head around the ingredients. I got as far as thinking I might make fudge, but got hung up on the fact the cream and sugar had to be the main ingredients. Think I was being a bit pedantic.
Anyway, lets get a poll up and roll on the next one! smile
