iHalal food - what if you are against it?
Discussion
At my workplace, due to it being in the centre of Birmingham, the catene serves only Halal meat. No none Halal meat. The work place is divided into approx 75% Muslim and 25% other religion, so I can understand their reasoning behind it. But I can't help but imagine if it was the other way round, and they sold only normal food that hadn't been prayed upon and killed in a certain way the commotion that would be caused?
I don't eat the Halal meat out of principal, not because I am religious, but I don't agree with it. How is it fair that there is no none Halal meat option?

Go on I'll bite! Our canteen serves non-halal meat (I.e. Pork, cheap Chicken, etc) and my Muslim colleagues just have the fish or go vegi. We have many of these discussions in our office as non of us are hung up on pc hand wringing, so feel comfortable arguing / ripping the piss out of each other. I agree with you in that I avoid Halal meat if I can due to not agreeing with the ethics (the principle behind it is good, but that's another story!) Anyway, simple solution, don't eat in the canteen, bring in your own food! Think of all the lovely meats you can have, Rabbit, Venison, Pigeon, Osterich, hmmm!
Probably one for the politics section rather than food
I can understand why some wouldn't be up for eating halal meat. Or at least, as much as I can those who won't eat other odds and ends for their various reasons.
Personally, I think this is a prime example of where "the law" should keep it's schneb out. To my knowledge, employers aren't obliged to provide food for workers. What they do provide should be up to them. Workers (of any persuasion) always have the option of eating out or bringing their own food in after all.
We have far too many "considerations" IMO, so much so that it's counterproductive to an "integrated" community in many respects.

The manner of the killing evidently bothers those of a religious persuasion, but if you don't share their beliefs, why should it bother you?
Because the way Halal meat is slaughtered isn't particularly humane and I would rather eat meat that had been killed in a humane way. Marquis_Rex said:

Because it's inhumane and barbaric?Just a guess......
Halal slaughtering guidelines here
In particular...
"...The animal has to be fed as normal and given water prior to slaughter, one animal must not see the other being slaughtered..."
How many 'non-halal' slaughterhouses can claim that?

They are still not conscious as they bleed out. As far as we can tell, it is better. As a supposedly humane first world nation we should insist on it. It's not like the Halal rules forbid stunning - they are largely concerned with the animal's welfare.grumbledoak said:

Most meat killes "halal style" is stunned first similar to with th ebolt gun in a muslim slaughter house.
Out here most every place you go to has a Halal option / stall / menu but with lots of chinese too there is also a lot of pork products! you just make your choice. They even divide out the cuttlery!! Share and share alike
although last year someone did have a whole batch of stickers made up with the Halal council logo on them and a government thingy saying "new Halal Pork" then stuck them on every pork product they could find in NTUC Fairprice (equiv of Asda)
Its amazing how many Muslims actually believed this!! Caused a bit of a scandle!!
