Just having a flicker through a mates photos , hes living in america and has done for a few years now. In quite alot of the photos there are other people and the only normal beer i can see is corona (cloud9) and bud (hurl). Now in quite a few others there appears to be coors light bud light and every other lite beer you can think of.

Now im not trying to start any arguements , but is it because americans just cant drink our normal 4/5/6% stuff or am i missing something?

Whilst im here aswell , you see everyone drinking out of red cups , in photos , in tv programs in movies, reasons for this?

As you can tell ive never been there or a matter of fact out of europe

There is plenty of good beer in the US, Sam Adams, Saranac, Ommegang, magic Hat, Empire, etc, and they are (exceot for Sam Adams), local beers...

actually, lite beer in America is low fat beer. Some of their beer is soft, but Jesus you can get some hard stuff over there. If you can drink one bottle of Mephistopheles I salute you!

Lite beer is usually the same abv but is the low calorie option, ie low carb.

AFAIK, with the exception of the odd microbrewery, they don't actually have beer in America. They drink an awful lot of really weak homoeopathic lager shandy though.

Seems a lot of our people can't handle it either.

It's nothing to do with alcohol. It's a low sugar beer. Gets you every bit as drunk, not quite as fat. Slightly weaker taste (some better than others) as a result.

I don't mind it if it's all thats going. Not my first pick, though. There are thousands of spectabular craft brewed ales to choose from, which is what I go for.

Doesn't fill you up as much so you can drink more of it. Tastes like fizzy water, except for the Sam Adams version which is pretty decent

I always assumed the red cup thing was a continuation of the 'brown bag', although I may be wrong

They probably drink light beer so they dont feel as bad when they eat there 3 pounder burger with a half gallon of full fat coke!

Had the pleasure of drinking light beer in america, and it wasnt to my liking.

Good beer is easy to come by in america.

Budweiser etc is "popular" in the same way that fosters/carling etc is popular here, because a lot of people seem happy to tip any old piss down their necks.

It amuses me how they are trying to promote Coors Light in the UK as being a decent brand. The US advertising makes it clear it's anything but!
