As above, can I put them in the dishwasher or will I ruin them?

Thanks!

You will ruin them. I know this because I put my first one through the dishwasher and after a few months the handle simply snapped off. The nice chap in John Lewis (who replaced it FOC incidentally) said "that's been in a dishwasher hasn't it?"...

Whatever you do, don't leave them in the sink midway through the washing up. Or vigourously run them through a cloth in your hand. Ask me how I know!

I've washed mine always in the dishwasher, left them in water and generally not looked after them for 12 years. With a good sharpener.....they're good as new.

Why put a good knife in a dishwasher anyway? It takes 10 seconds to clean a knife properly and you should treat them with respect if they're good quality.

I'm pretty lazy, but i don't mind spending some time and effort cleaning and sharpening my knives as they are the most valued items in my kitchen (next to the OH of course).

Yet another topic that could be solved by either reading the instructions that came with the product, or a quick Google.

And if you read ANY of those topics, you'll see that I had already done some investigation, and was asking for some more in depth advice from someone with hands on experience, as the answers to my questions were not answered by the instructions or support websites.

The Global instructions that come with every knife clearly state that they should not be put in a dishwasher however.

So rolleyes back at you, clever clogs.

You'll notice that I didn't have anything useful to add to those threads, but neither did I add a moaning response.

Bung mine through the dishwasher. They are kitchen implements not works of art.

Nothing to do with them being 'works of art', the heat and detergent in a dishwasher can damage the type of steel they are made from.

OK, as lots of people seem to be looking at this thread I may as well post this here!

I need a new knife block for them. They came with a block but to be honest it's horrid and looks cheap. It's this set in this block

http://www.chef.com.au/prod/show/9044/global-syner...

I want a nice wood/bamboo type block, ideally a much more compact one too but it needs to fit all the knives in it, and maybe a couple of extra ones too. Any ideas? Amazingly one of the knives is a bit of a tight fit in the supposedly custom designed block, on top of the fact it looks horrid!

How?
Ask Global!

http://www.globalknives.uk.com/knife-care

Kitchen Knife Care

Washing

It is recommended that you wash your Global knives by hand using a mild dishwashing liquid and water. After washing, rinse with water and dry thoroughly with a towel. Global knives should NOT be put in the dishwasher. Doing so could damage the sharp edges should they come into contact with other objects in the dishwasher. In addition, exposure to extreme heat and powerful detergents found in dishwashers can be harmful to CROMOVA 18 high carbon stainless steel.
