Yang Sing always had a good reputation. I've not eaten there myself in a good few years mind you.

There's always that Sweet Manderin that was on the F-Word (won their heat too). In the Northern Quarter, I believe.

On the subject has anyone got any general restaurant recommendations for central Manchester? - done Mr.Tom's, Ning, the place in the Palace htel and a few others, but fancy something different for the next trip.

El Rincon De Rafa just off Deansgate for tapas.

The one in London is fantastic, definitely worth going if you like spicy food. The hotpot is tasty!

Yang Sing is alright, nothing to write home about.

Red Hot is supposed to be good, though not been there myself.

Red Chilli on Oxford Road, near the hospital is very good. My boss, who is Hong Kong Chinese, says it's the best Chinese food in Manchester.....

We were in Manchester over the weekend.

Tried going to the Red Chilli place on Portland street at 6pm, cardboard boxes left all over and didn't look to be open for food. Popped into Red Hot instead and had a great meal. Thoroughly recommend it.

Not sure what most of the locals were eating, big boiling pot and putting in various greens, cured beef(?) and seafood. No idea what it is called though.

Sorry - this is Thai, but any excuse to recommend it - the starters especially..

another vote here for El Rincon (tapas) but it's very small so you do have to wait..

I could eat the salt & pepper wings from sweet mandarin til I burst, lovely. the restaurant itself is far better than the average from Chinatown and is well priced.

make sure you go to Chinatown forlunch. dim sum is half price before 5pm and is delicious. I think new Hong kong was our regular (east side of the square by the pagoda, upstairs a above a supermarket). my flatmate at the time rated it amongst those he frequented whilst living in hk.
