Little Chef, do you go now?

Missus Chaffs and I went with some friends the morning after a wedding back in Feb last year .. "I haven't been to one in years, but I saw Heston doing his thing and I wonder if it is any good?" .. needless to say it wasn't the HB menu and was truly awful. Bad food, worse service - may have been an off day as everyone in the place seemed to be complaining. Should have gone to the M&S food place instead.

The fry up, when delivered on time was OK prior to the recent TV show. Nine times out of ten if there was more than zero cars in the car park then there was a rush on. That was the problem I think, at least the ones I used.
They did not need to shake up the menu, it was the work method and attitude of the staff. Maybe the staff were tied to work orders, I don't know, but watching the "chef" cook each dish individually and copying the laminated "must look like this" sheet didn't help either.

Nope - far too expensive for what you get.

For a meal out on the way back from somewhere with the kids, we usually go to either a...
Toby Carvery - usually extremely busy and a bit chav infested these days.
Harvester - quality of food has started to slip.
Hungary Horse - very chav infested, but food has always been good.
Beefeater pub - Very good, best of the 'cheaper alternatives' as above.

I used to work there for a few months when I was in college. I would never eat there again! I was there before Heston stepped in but I can't think it has changed much. The food is pure crap. It is either fried or microwaved or reheated. I remember once we ran out of gerkins so my manager asked my to fry cucumber slices!
I've been to the Popham branch, where the Heston menu was put in, and we were very impressed. The braised ox cheeks were fab, and the steak and ale pie looked really good. green tea trifle with popping candy was quite interesting too.
There are only two site with the HB menu so far, i think a few more are planned....

So, utter ste, nothing's changed and only profiting short term off of the massive exposure they recieved from the show???
My experiences were different. I was on the way to see my folks in Devon & my nipper started kicking off. LC was the nearest place to stop so we grudgingly went there. The staff couldn't have been more helpful (heated up some food her) and the food (full English breakfast) was much better than it was before. Compared to what they used to be, they are significantly better, though a significant improvement on utterly crap is still not a particularly high standard.
