Adberg Supernova? anything as peaty? single malt
Discussion
Since before christmas I have been enjoying the odd glass. I have bought myself a highland park 18YO and while its nice I find I much prefer stronger peaty whiskeys. when I come back from my travels the HP just seems a little meh
reading up I found this Ardberg Supernova which sounds right up my street however all bottles where sold out last year
1) will they do another run this year of supernova?
2)if not is there anything close
Any sugestions, thanks in advance

Supernova is still available at a premium over RRP.
For that level of peatiness there is only one real rival - Bruichladdich Octomore.
Try other "standard" distillery bottlings of Ardbeg though, they're all heavily peated, hugely complex drams. Well, Blasda's made with unpeated malt so not that one
As has been said, Laphroaig is good, try the quarter cask, 10yo or 10yo cask-strength. The 18 isn't as phenolic but more complex than the younger 'frogs and a real beaut.

Ardmore
Caol Ila
Lagavulin
Laphroaig
Ardbeg
Ardmore being the least obviously peaty probably from the group!
Have a little look here - shows and explains more than I could.

last week stayed away so I took the oportunity to sample the entire shelf they had on offer from left to right. not very scientific I know.
problem is I enjoyed them all.
Laphroaig was definitely the most peaty of them.
I liked the lagavulin 16YO but didn't taste particulary peaty more fruity to me.
next time I will take a little note book as I forgot what most of them were.
after reading some tasting notes and with a lot of you mentioning other ardbergs I have just ordered an Ardbeg Corryvreckan.
Best crack on and finish the highland park.

Pesty, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the Corryvreckan.
It's probably my favourite expression from Ardbeg (which is my favourite distillery).
Other great Ardbegs that are reasonably easy (if not cheap) to get hold of at the moment are:
Very young
Still young
Almost there
Renaissance
Uigeadail
Arigh Nam Beist
There quite a few varieties of the 17yo kicking about but these are getting v expensive.
Blasda is a lightly peated one that is very interesting. Tried it recently having bought a bottle when it first came out and it's better than I remembered.
Lord of the Isles is an interesting one too, fairly lightly peated (not to Blasda standards though) but not worth the money IMHO.
And there are loads of single casks about and malts from independant bottlers.
And, don't forget, the 10yo is amazing! Most of the whisky that goes into the 10 is actually 17 years old.
Slainte!

looking forward to it ariving.
tonight I tried a
Bowmore cask strength. A lot going on with this one very strong flavours right up my street,
Laphroaig quarter cask, this was very peaty almost medicine like with the smell again very nice.
the I tried a Bruichladdich after those two seemed a bit washy but on the second glass I really enjoyed it, probably more than the other two very smooth maybe a little two sweet though.
bring on the Ardberg
