I will admit that I buy small bottles of red wine (the 35cl ones)... to use for making gravy! biggrin

But regardless... as an accountant I know a lot about business, and there are people in every business who will try and rip people off in one way or another. And if you don't believe that then you're living in a dream world! wink
And I'm an accountant and can spot a fantastic wine from a good wine from an OK wine from a crap wine. I can also tell the difference between Bordeaux and Burgundy, for example...which allegedly use exactly the same ingredients!

With a little exposure it's not difficult, and a genuinely good wine tastes wonderful.


You're a steak man - explain to me why meat isn't 'just meat' and why a £50 Kobe steak is better than a £20 fillet/rib-eye is better than a £5 braising steak! It's the same principle...it takes both interest and exposure to identify the difference, and once you can, you almost NEVER go back to the cheap stuff...


(As an aside, tend to cook fillet or sirloin myself at home, and yet when I had Kobe beef while in Japan last year I was genuinely impressed. But you do need a good (£7-10) medium/full bodied red to partner steak properly - syrah/shiraz is usually a good accompaniment.)
