Buying tips anyone? Seems the best place!

Is it really as simple as £20 for one with 2 temp settings and off you go?

They are a very simple piece of kit so personally I would just go for the cheapest one you can find in the size you want.

For a slow cooker on its own, just buy cheapest in the size you want. Might be worth looking at an instant pot though that has various other features (pressure cooking, notably)

Little update.

My set up Morphy Richards Accents 48701, with a WEMO wifi plug
Just bought a WiFi plug socket for mine, sometimes there is no one in the house from 7:30 till 18:30, so rather than over cooking or not using the slow cooker due to no one being around to put it on, I can get everything ready and just put it on when at work.
Based on this post I have just obtained a TP-Link WiFi plug for this express purpose.

Remote Control Cooking. Now I need an IP Camera so I can check on it's progress from my phone....
What a fantastic idea.... of down to Maplins for a wifi plug.......... more control over slow cooker, so hopefully reduce over cooking smile

The "hot finish" slow cooking technique. It's great. I make pork (with crackling) and shoulder of lamb this way.

the lamb is stunning: super soft inside, crisp well browned exterior
I’ve done my roasts this way for years. When I mentioned it at work people seemed suprised. I just thought it was an obvious technique!

Lidl has a 3.5 litre slow cooker on offer - £14.99.

For the price I don't think this can be beaten - I bought a similar model from Tesco last year for £18 which doesn't have the indicator light.

I’m looking in to clearing out a cupboard and drilling a hole through the work top so I can plug mine in. The cats have this past week enjoyed the beginnings of a joint of beef and some mince, despite having weighted the bloody lid down with various kitchen accessories irked

I’m sure in any normal home with doors that would actually have been my first move. To be fair even if that were possible one of them, and the dogs, can open doors. He can probably pick locks too given half the chance.

New slow cooker purchased after I broke the last one. It'll be hammered this winter.

Following on from a post ages ago, I've purchased a slow cooker, and am making some fablous chillis with it. A few weekends ago, I done a some rolled pork & crackaling, which was great, but I'm sure I can do better! So, any advice please? Previously I roasted the whole thing at 240, cut the crackaling off, then cocked the rest for 8 hours, finally reheating the crackaling with the potatoes and it worked out fine.

This time, I was considering some form of chipolte rub for it, last time it was chili, soy and sugar paste (some recipe I found). The current piece is 1.7KG, so has some weight to it.

Ideas please!

I found some diced venison in Tesco that was reduced to nearly half price (which will make it taste better) today and will concoct something tomorrow featuring red wine and seasonal vegetables.

It is that time of year again - the heating is on and the slow cooker is out. Looking for some inspiration. Did a chilli the other day with a kg of brisket.

Fond memories of the pulled pork I done last winter. I will definitely be doing more slow roasts. I found a timer plug too, so can prep in the evening and let it cook when at work.

I do love a good stew/casserole too, slow cooked beef chunks are my fav.

I quite like doing Moroccan Lamb in mine

Very similar to the allrecepies version online but I often add some raisins too and perhaps 1/2 can chopped tomatoes too
