On the Live Lounge theme, I'm not sure it's better but it made me smile Automatic's Golddigger (Kanye West)

Richard Cheese does a mean cover of "Milkshake" by Kelis:

I enjoy a lot of his covers but I'll share the Welcome to the Jungle one:

Maybe not better than the original but a great alternative.

Pat Boone does some similar stuff if this has tickled your fancy - they also highlight how bad the lyrics are in a lot of songs.

One more, Limp Bizkit "Nookie" by Mr Cheese (contains some swearing)

I had no idea that was a cover until this post, David Gray should be given this one to keep.

Let's stop and examine this one for a moment or two.

A stoned non musical screamer who necked himself or a genuine blues legend ( Leadbelly ).

No contest, sorry Kurt you come a distant second at best.

Another one for Metallica; Turn the Page (originally Bob Seger)

That's the one I was trying to remember, cheers!
For me thats the single best cover I have heard. Compared to the original... well, it sounds like Metallica wrote it. And the video is fantastic.

Leftfield suggestion....

Seether - Careless Whisper

Not being a Wham fan in anyway whatsoever I'm quite surprised that I actually like one of thier songs wink

I've always thought that the Guns 'n' Roses version of Live and Let Die was better than Paul McCartney's original. I know they didn't change it that much, but they just 'filled it out' a bit more and I thought it suited Axl's voice.

I really do prefer his version to Biffy Clyro's.

Yup, I was going to suggest that. A very, very good cover.

And another vote for Johnny Cash's "Hurt". I can't listen to that without bursting into tears.

Trevor Horn was a genius. If you haven't got the Princes Trust concert DVD ("Slaves to the Rhythm"), then it's well worth digging out - esp. for the Frankie stuff - the replacement for Holly is (dare I say it) actually better!

Probably not gonna be popular, but Bryan Ferry's / roxy music version of jealous guy, I much prefer it to the original.
