Just a reminder that the new Eels album is out tomorrow on iTunes and everywhere else on Tuesday.

I'm also lucky enough to be booked to go and see them in Brighton on March 25th. I went to see them there in 2011 and my wife (who doesn't really like The Eels that much) hung around after to go and hug Mr. E smile

I watched them as well in 2011 at Glastonbury http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frLu5dCKMPY
I was down the front sun on my back cider in my had having a great time , they sounded a cut above the rest that day and won me over after thinking they were just another old band doing the rounds

The guy has a knack of taking fairly cliched rock music & turning it into amazing music, I think he's brilliant. He has a horrendous story to his life too. A really hard time growing up. Good luck to him.

Its weird, although I just class myself as a interested Eels fan, I found out the other month that I have more material by them then any other band. Mr E is a very prolific artist and not a bad collection of songs amongst them. Still "think last stop this town" was a TOTP classic.

He just doesn't ever make bad records. Listening to End of Time as I type this. cloud9

Although, for happiness sometimes it pays not to listen too closely to the lyrics.

Too true, probably my all time favourite musician.

His book about his life, 'Things the Grandchildren Should Know' is excellent; well written and very revealing. It's also worth mentioning the documentary 'Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives' that followed him as he researched the life of his quantum physicist father. Well worth a watch by anyone who hasn't seen it!

Thoughts on the new album? Just given it one spin so far, has a funny vibe to it, kinda rebellious and steadfast and in your face but with a soft edge. Might be a grower but only a couple really jumped out at me. Also I thought E sounded really old, but there is quite a lowfi production to the vocal sound. He'll be doing some great late era Cash records when he's of pensionable age I reckon.

His book is a must read for fans, as mentioned above.

I've only had chance to have one listen to the new album so far, but I think it'll be a grower (I've found this with a lot of his work).

I prefer it to the last album, not sure how it will stack up against the others just yet. On the whole though, I approve! thumbup

his voice has the same effect on it as he used on Souljacker, 1st track reminded me of that album but then goes off elsewhere. Crazy intro to the extra tracks if you have bought the special edition! Sounded hillarious on first play but I know will be anoying and skipped after the 10th play.

6 Music just played 'Bombs Away' (as part of there album of the day feature). Only the second time I've heard it, but oh my, that's a great track!

Yep, made me chuckle when I heard it, will probably be skipping it from now on, but a nice touch! biggrin

Surprised to see Brixton tickets still easily available, so I'll be seeing my first Eels gig next month! Anyone know what band set-up he's using? Strings etc or stripped back garage band?

I enjoyed the album. Most of the songs are great and a couple okay. Which is normal.

Don't know what he is using this time. Here is the video I took from the one in Brighton in 2011:

One of my fave bands The Eels.. Some of the later albums need a bit of perseverance to 'get into', But overall a superb band.
