As many times as I have heard it (and that is a LOT) I still can't comprehend how one could physically hit the drums that quickly.

You basically use the drumheads elacticity to bounce the stick, its called a roll;), when you do anything other than a straight beat its called a fill, and that is one hell of a fill.bow

Stargazer by Rainbow.

Cozy Powell bashing the skins leading into Richie Blackmore. Sounds fabulous every single time.

Minipete, definitely FOLLOW ME HOME and not Going Home.
A forgotten gem. If you like a slow build with crickets, how about http://youtu.be/j6gZefW4yEA (Billy Joel - Goodnight Saigon)

High and Dry by Radiohead.

I know I'm a total sucker for Radiohead, but this intro just blows me away. So Simple, such beauty.

As much as I could listen to OK Computer 5 days out of every week of my life, I do love The Bends too.

First track on The Second Coming by the Stone Roses.

You took the words right out of my mouth by Meatloaf. There's probably quite a few Meatloaf tracks with great intros too.

brilliant song - but not sure there's anything special about the intro. Le Freak probably has a better intro (imho)

Can't go wrong with a song's length of soul/funk to kick things off:
