That will be the one with the most votes so far, which is hardly surprising as it is by far the best intro ever.

The long slow build

I seem to be a huge fan of long slow building intros, and those are two of my favourites! Plus:

Ride - Leave Them All Behind

Oceansize - Music For A Nurse

And the bombastic, rocking, Amplifier - The Consultancy (which the rest of the song fails to live up to the great intro!)

Not really an intro (2-4 bars) but an extended twin guitar jam

So many to choose from, and some cracking suggestions already.
I would like to add:

Guns and roses - Welcome to the jungle
Paul Simon - Diamonds on the soles of her shoes
Metallica - Fade to black, One, For Whom The Bell Tolls (too many others!)
Led Zeppelin - Since I've been loving you, Rock and roll, No Quarter, way too many to choose from!

But my favorite has to be:

ZZ Top "La Grange"

I always post this when these threads come up, but:

Rainbow Brown - Till You Surrender

Has a brilliant buildup.

Led Zep Rock and roll, with that Earl Palmer influenced intro.

I love One, it's a truly awesome song, but the intro I very much dislike. Overly drawn out to my mind.

Mr Bungle - Carousel.
