Best "Pop" Record ever produced?
Discussion
No mention of Lady Gaga?
Bad Romance

Also; Paparazzi, Poker Face and Alejandro. The videos are pretty good too. Ugly, dirty...yet hard to stop watching. The video to Alejandro is particularly disturbing!

I bloody hate pop music (having done it), but 'Owner of a Lonely Heart' or 'Slave to the Rhythm' would be the best pop music ever 'PRODUCED' as the o/p asked.
Time sensitive of course. They were well ahead of their time.
And neither of those would be where they are without Trevor Horn.Time sensitive of course. They were well ahead of their time.
Obviously impossible to answer, but great way to get people to list loads of great pop records.
I'm about to turn 50, so obviously I think the 70's & 80's was the era when "pop" music was at it's best, and hard to argue with most of the suggestions on here.
However, I'm gonna vote for Heat Wave by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. Timeless, feel good, get up and dance pop music.

I find it hard to disagree with any of the suggestions here.
For me "the day the music died" was in September 1970 when I heard that Jimmy Hendrix was dead.
"All along the Watchtower" was released as a single shortly afterwards and I still think this is one of his very many best performances.

They Might Be Giants - Birdhouse In Your Soul.
That's a really good call too - saw them a couple of times, between the likes of Nirvana, NoMeansNo, Jesus Lizard, Transvision Vamp, PWEI & Ozric Tentacles I used to go to a lot of gigs in my yoof.davegreg said:
Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones
Another excellent call there One that is not my favourite but perhaps qualifies - Wonder Stuff - Size of a Cow?

Dunno about "best", but Squeeze deserve a mention.
Mmm, Up The Junction. Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag
Barenaked Ladies - One Week
B52s - Love Shack
REM -Shiny Happy People
Caro Emerald - Liquid Lunch
Space - Me & You V The World
Fratelli's - Chelsea Dagger
Should be at least a mention for Madness too- Baggy Trousers, House of Fun, Our House, and my favourite WIngs of a Dove.
I should stop this before I get to Lily Allen and my hardcore techno credibility is shattered.
Many great tracks listed on this thread. I'm far from your average 'pop' fan but I try to pay attention to producers and hear a lot of general Pop through the radio at work. Trevor Horn and The Neptunes being two I like to 'guess' the Producer with.
Anyway, I'd never be able to pick out a single tune, but two to add to the mix:
Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
The Killers - Mr Brightside.
I'm sure I could think of another 20 not mentioned yet, but those two just stood out at this time.
