Dr Feelgood - Roxette

Short, memorable, catch but with an edge.

Can't get you out of my head, Minogue.

Some Pet Shop Boys stuff from the 80's were good, Michael Jackson stuff too like Beat It, 99 Red Balloons by Nena. Also liked some Duran stuff e.g Girls On Film and Planet Earth.

Boys Don't Cry - The Cure. It's short (a must for a good pop record, anything over 2m45s is a no no), punchy, great tune, simple but meaningful lyrics you can remember and sing along to. Just the perfect pop song.
Great choice there!

Also short and pure....

I'm more of a rock and dance music fan, but I can appreciate that "Billie Jean" is a superbly crafted, wonderfully produced and performed record. And written by a bloke from Cleethorpes to boot.smilehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Temperton

I'd also add "Thriller", "Dancing Queen" and "Heart of Glass" and Please, Please Me, but there's probably loads more if you think about it.wobble

I'd go for 'Sugar Baby Love' by The Rubettes.

Best video? 'Take on Me' by A-Ha.

Rio Duran Duran.

Exotic location, high gloss production, split screen quantel digital editing. The real pinnacle of the 1980s pop video.

The split screen effect was also used by Ashes to Ashes and also GTA: Vice City.

Oh yeah, and the music is quite catchy as well.

M - Pop Musik of course: https://youtu.be/iEfFOd8TDZA

Despite that being my era and producing some almost perfect pop gems (Relax, Don't You Want Me etc etc) I think there have been some recent pop tunes which beat them. Call Me Maybe, Party Rock Anthem, I Gotta Feeling, Happy (Pharrell) for instance.

Sadly Wham doesn't get a look in. Faith was a better pop single than any Wham track.

Boys Boys Boys (Summertime Love) Sabrina. Catchy pop tune and a video that broke the pause button smile

Really though "Swords of a Thousand Men" Tenpole Tudor.
People love it even if they've never heard it before smile

Something else by Trevor Horn - Two Tribes by Frankie
While the intro to "Two Tribes" by Frankie was the sound of the nails being hammered into the lid of Punk's coffin, I would say the pinnacle of pop music has to be something by Michael Jackson. "Thriller" for me, but I won't ague against "Billie Jean".
