I was sitting around feeling slightly melancholy yesterday and was flicking through songs on YouTube when I remembered a song my grandad used to listen to - The Streak by Ray Stevens https://youtu.be/stvrWdFijZc

He loved that song as it was just so odd and it would always be on when we had a road trip!

Another is is Tell Laura I Love Her by Ricky Valance https://youtu.be/8HIHdCJA8f8

My dad was a milkman and growing up I'd go out on rounds with him, he had a Bedford pickup (a small white thing) that he used for delivered and it had a 60's mixtape constantly in the tape player on repeat, I remember learning all the lyrics to that song at maybe 10 years old and belting it out whilst out on the road, then having a glass of yellow top when we got home.

Anyone get the same flashbacks with particular songs?

This reminds me of my mother sleeping on the sofa. I had to watch the clock and wake her up at the right time so she could go to another job. We were poor and the world was still in black-and-white:

(They really don't write songs like that anymore.)

And a lot of us are really grateful for that.

Last Christmas by Wham

The bit that goes "Now I know what a fool I've been, but if you kissed me now, I know you'd fool me again" reminds me of a woman I knew and she would, still! biggrin

ELO's Xanadu reminds me of Corfe Castle - i can only assume that it was playing on the radio when we went there as kids. Same is true for Come on Eileen by DMR, which reminds me of the South Coast of France thanks to a family holiday there in 1982!

Used to have this song in my head when I used to have to cycle to work 8 miles in the morning. This was before Walkmans. Sometimes I had a portable cassette recorder in my backpack
