You bought tickets and then started to listen to them on the assumption you would like them?
I might be going, Joshua Tree is one of their good albums, that and Auctung Baby (IMO obviously). If it was a normal U2 gig I wouldn't bother. I'm still a bit uncomfortable about lining Bono's pockets and feeding his ego.

I bought some tickets for a stupid amount of money and been trying to get into them and failed. Not sure how it will go TBH.
Fair play for showing a bit of faith! You never know, they might go the extra mile for your entertainment.I bought some tickets for a stupid amount of money and been trying to get into them and failed. Not sure how it will go TBH.

For what its worth I saw them last Wednesday night at Meadowlands (New Jersey) - thought it appropriate since the last time I saw them was on The Joshua Tree tour in1987 at Elland Road (before that it was 1984 at the Brixton Academy)
In short:
a brilliant opening - make sure you are there for it
they play four or five classics to warm everyone up
they play Joshua Tree in order - as people will know the album gets less 'accessible' the longer you go on, and the concert felt like it
they go off and then return for four or five of the more recent songs
The band were incredibly tight, Bono's voice was shot to pieces, the big screen behind them as the best I've ever seen and my 16 year old thought they were dull from the start !

Great, I have a teenage son and a 10yr old. Hopefully we will get something from it.In short:

I went on Saturday
I am a big U2 fan
I thought the show was OK but a bit lifeless in some ways - their age is showing and also the fact I think that they have done the songs so many times. I've seen them around 8 times now.
Some of the set list pacing was a bit off also - some of the quicker songs like Vertigo and Elevation should have been at the start with songs like Sunday Bloody Sunday a bit later.
I would still see them again though.

Not bad, 7/10.
Did feel that the sounds was a little off though? The screen was amazing, something else.
Went early as the poster had said earlier and had to sit through Noel Gallagher which was pretty awful, then had to wait for U2 to appear. So lots of sitting and waiting which was not great and then some great songs. Did notice loads of people leaving after With or Without you though.
Didn't say until the end, as we wanted to get away early and was generally a bit bored by that time.

After One they did their new song and Noel came back for Don't look back in Anger (on saturday)Did feel that the sounds was a little off though? The screen was amazing, something else.

I thought the use of the screen was poor. I remember in the Vertigo tour they used the screen to good effect - in that there was a closer link to most songs this one didn't seem to use that good imagery and a lot of the time they could have used it to show clean shots of the band for the majority of people sat miles away

Apart from the "hits" of Joshua Tree, it seemed like they were almost regretting saying they'd play the entire album. Having said that, One Tree Hill was awesome (I've never heard it live before, but it's one of my favourite tracks). Once they finished the album tracks, the atmosphere picked up a lot. I relearnt that I shouldn't go on opening night at a venue (not that there was a choice when I bought my tickets) -the sound in the stands was a bit off at the start - couldn't hear Edge or bono to begin with, but could def feel Larrys right foot - bass overload!
When will John Lewis start selling 8k tvs - the screen was immense, but sadly underused - given what they've done in the past with the visuals

...and I thought I was the odd one out based on how much everyone I went with enjoyed it (Saturday)...the sound engineers must have been unavailable that day, it was screeching, treble rich guitar, too much bass and lots of drums, as was the case with Noel G in the warm up.
Sadly, I couldn't hear much of Bono and the only time he was really clear was when he did his irritating political speech. How a man with a large yacht and a fortune in the hundreds of millions of dollars thinks we're all stupid enough to go along with what he says, is beyond me but I guess that goes with the territory.
One of the reviews I read (can't remember if it was the Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Independent or FT) suggested the concert was 45 minutes too long, which I fully agree with.
I love their music but it was not captivating in the same way as Kings of Leon (Thursday) or Tom Petty (Sunday).

Quite tempted to ask for a refund actually. Sounded like the bass was turned up too high and the treble was muffled. Maybe something to do with the height of the speakers as were the full height of the stadium. But then again, i am not a sound engineer, I only know what sounds good or bad.Sadly, I couldn't hear much of Bono and the only time he was really clear was when he did his irritating political speech. Ah...so there are a few of us who thought the sound was off. Interesting.
Decided it was worth of a complaint to Ticketmaster, who asked me to write to livenation as promoter. "Given the nature of your comments, it is necessary for me to discuss them with the event promoter and the artist's management team. Please be assured that we will respond to you fully as soon as we are in a position to do so.In the meantime, please advise your full contact details for our records."
Not sure why the need my full contact details - they aren't going to send the boys round are they? :P
I fully expect nothing to happen

i was right up the front..
sound was generally brilliant.from there.. . only ultraviolet and one sounded off. Red hill doesnt work either,
overall though it was brilliant and standing was so much better - intense atmosphere and a memorable night
Screen close up worked too.. the JT section really was all I needed-
