June - Ben Howard @ Hammersmith Apollo
Take a good book... Sounded amazing at Glastonbury. My wife and I are taking our daughter tomorrow - we're looking forward to it (no plans for reading glasses!).
Hope that doesn't put you on a downer, as he is a genuinely talented songwriter and has the ability to pull it out the bag as per his 2013 glasto set. Fingers crossed for you that he's on better form tomorrow!
I have a recording of the Glasto 2015 set on my Sky box which I dig out almost weekly at the moment. Maybe it works better on camera, but it does it for me :-)
We'll see how tomorrow goes. It's our daughter's first proper gig so the experience alone will count for a lot.

I haven't been to the Apollo before and the layout is a little odd (standing area behind the seating??), but it actually worked out well as you had a better / fuller view of the stage.
I'm not very familiar with the new album, but having listened a few times I think it's going to be a 'grower'. As we know, he firmly prioritises new music so that was the early focus of the gig. He did treat us with some 'old ones' and 'Small Things' in particular was great. I think that's my favourite BH song. The new material is a little different (a tiny bit more electronic in nature), but it's good he's not just rolling out another album following a successful format - like Editors for example.
I've always appreciated the quality of reproduction he has, the band aren't just a collection of randoms and they're a very 'tight' unit. Live, the music is very faithful to the recorded versions.
The sound wasn't great, there were loads of people standing around, chatting (even with their backs to the stage?) - and some blokes were losing their patience and actually order people to 'shush'. It's just a different type of gig - I'm used to gigs with mosh pits and this is obviously a bit gentler.
My daughter absolutely loved it. If I think back to when I was 13 / 14, going to grown up gig like that would have been overwhelming but she loved the whole experience.
I think the set worked as a whole and it just re-enforced the fact that I love his music. I think we are lucky to be able to produce talents such as his, but that's just my take.

I have to say, really excellent! In the days leading up to it, I just wasn't in the mood. But it was one of our daughter's presents and there was no way we weren't going.

Glad to hear you and your daughter enjoyed it! I'd agree with you on the new album - not great and doesn't grab you like his first one did, but some decent music on there. FWIW I've been to the Apollo quite a few times and I've never seen the seating laid out like that.

Glad I live an hour away and haven't set off / booked train, hotel, even flights! Hope no one on here has!

Feel even luckier today, flew in from Cork yesterday. Home this morning. In fairness to Eddie he mentioned he had seen a specialist and did seem to be drinking a lot of cough bottle, if he hadn't mentioned not sure I'd have noticed tbh. I guess it's not like he has form, and I bet no one is more disappointed than he is.

Tried to get PJ tickets and failed... had been looking at resellers, but work kept me from buying - feeling quite lucky on that score.

Saw Mudhoney in Nottingham a year or so ago. If you've not seen them yet, you're in for a treat.Cheered myself up with tickets for Seattle's latest (and Mike McCready promoted) pretenders - Thunderpussy

I'm tempted with Halestorm - seen them before and really enjoyed them. The problem is that they're playing Brixton and I just don't fancy it2 Jul - The Last Internationale (Halifax, urgh!)

I understand what you mean about certain venues. I really enjoy Nothing But Thieves live, but the London gig is Ally Pally - which I can’t stand. Crap acoustics and a real PITA to get to/from (I avoided Royal Blood there for the same reason). I don’t mind Brixton, but it’s not my favourite.
