Gig Plans - 2018
Discussion
Watched Editors at Northumbria Uni last week. They put on a great show and we later found out that Tom had been suffering with a bad cold. They cancelled the gig the following night. Supported by Talos who I was aware of and have a couple of tracks of theirs on playlists but I preferred their live performances over the album material which is a bit more paired back and dreamy. Really good gig.

100% agree - I saw them in Southampton and they were pretty good (As were Talos).I really only knew stuff from the first couple of albums, but enjoyed nearly all of it.

David Byrne at the 02 29th October. Really looking forward to it, long time David Byrne and Talking Heads fan.
Saw his show earlier in the year and it was one of the best gigs I've eve seen; visually brilliant. Not sure how it will translate to the 02 but you do have the benefit of the screens which I didn't at Oxford.I can't see it being as good at the O2 and, from experience, I'd say you'll NEED those screens there... BUT, if you didn't get a chance to see him earlier, do, it's excellent!

If I wasn't going on holiday that day I'd be there too.
After more than 50 years on this planet it’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything new but this changed last night. Obviously the songs were brillant and his voice and movement are much better than his 66 years ought to be, but it was visually spectacular even though it is really simple. Really envy anyone going to Manchester.
Oh it was nice not to be the oldest at a gig for a change

Was that Tim Minchin on backing vocals?
Jon Spencer at the Bodega next for me this Sunday, best dig out my Bellbottoms!
Went and watched Joanne Shaw Taylor a few weeks back. If you like guitar based rock/blues music you'll love it.
She is one of the best guitarists I've ever seen in person, certainly should be ranked as one of the greats.
She's on tour next year too, just booked tickets for March in Cambridge. Highly recommend.

Are you serious? I'm not saying this just to be contrary but I saw her earlier this year and she was very poor. Her, her band, the sound mixing. Heavily publicised on Planetrock and similar to a few other bands hugely over-hyped. I can't imagine she'll ever be ranked high enough to even headline anywhere other than a small venue. Ouf of curiosity who do you class as a guitar 'great'?popeyewhite said:

I meant her guitar playing abilities. Obviously the bigger scope of the entire band and the songs they create is quite a different topic. As a moderately average guitarist myself and having seen a lot of people play over the years. I was truly amazed at what and how she played.
Impromptu evening out last night to see Fred's House at a local village hall. Really good live performance with some great harmonies and understated lead guitar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWvT591AVIA

The Prodigy in Nottingham, in 20 hours or so. I'm sure it will be decent but I'm not exactly looking forward to it.
Eindhoven Metal Meeting on December 14th/15th, should be more than decent.
Nothing else in 2018, it's been perhaps my quietest year this century.

Well, November is going to be a busy one...
12 Nov - Greta van Fleet (London)
14 Nov - Greta van Fleet (Brum)
22 Nov - The Last Internationale (London)
24 Nov - Nothing But Thieves (Brum)
29 Nov - Mudhoney (London)
30 Nov - Black Mirrors (London)
Yes, GvF twice in 3 days... sometimes it's hard to say no to tickets...

I thought she was pretty accomplished, but nothing special. Her guitar screeched and her playing was soulless. As a moderately average guitarist myself and having seen a lot of people play over the years. I was truly amazed at what and how she played.
Anyway, King Crimson at the Bridgewater Hall on Friday. Third time of seeing them, very tight live.

Forgot all about this thread...
Popped over to Utrecht last week to see the Human League. Managed both to grab the set list from the stage and get Phil, Susan and Joanne to sign it!
Going to see Snapped Ankles this Thursday at the Garage in Highbury. They're my #1fave band at the moment by a long way and are actually the support act for this gig - Here Lies Man are headlining.
Had planned to see TVAM in London next week, but forgot to get tickets and some serious recent support from R6M meant that it's sold out
Going to see MGMT in Manchester in December though - which should be interesting.
Everything else I've currently got lined up is for the 2019 thread.

Sign up to Twickets.I have yet to fail to get to a gig I wanted to go to. It can be last minute (i.e. the day of the gig) but always managed it.
