What you bought and been enjoying this year?

So far for myself it's been in no particular order....

QOTSA - Villains
Everything Everything - Fever Dream
LCD Soundsystem - American Dream
Nothing but Thieves - Broken Machine
Soulwax - From Deewee
The Killers - Wonderful Wonderful

Enjoyed all of them immensely.

Over to you!

Enjoyed all of these this year:

Mogwai - Every Country's Sun
OMD - The Punishment of Luxury
Gary Numan - Savage
The Secret Sisters - You Don't Own Me Anymore
Robert Plant - Carry Fire
Tangerine Dream - Quantum Gate
Deep Purple - Infinite
Richard Barbieri - Planets+Persona
The War on Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
Accept - The Rise of Chaos
Depeche Mode - Spirit
Anathema - The Optimist
Brian Eno - Reflection
Slowdive - Slowdive

Just noticed there's not much by 'new' artists on there. However my favourite album of the year is a debut - the eponymous album by Cigarettes After Sex. An amazing record.

The National - Sleep Well Beast. I get more out of it every time I listen to it.

Robert Plant - Carry Fire. He is an annoying bugger for refusing to do any Zeppelin shows, but he's as interested in music as ever and forever creative.

Arcade Fire - Everything Now. I saw them debut the songs in Barcelona in June. I can't see this ever being my favourite Arcade Fire album, but it's very much them and, in the usual way, the less immediate songs are becoming very familiar.

Broken Social Scene - Hug of Thunder. A great BSS album. More people over here should discover them. Lesley Feist and Emily and James from Metric are heavily involved.

Had a first listen... seems to be more of a Grower I think, though the first track as you point out is pretty good. Its got big boots to fil if it's going to match the likes of Twisterella, Chelsea Girl etc... Second listen today I think!

Not been much new stuff that’s interested me this year (that I know of at least) , but have been listening to these two a lot:

The Eden House - Songs for the Broken Ones.
Been listening to their back catalogue a lot too. Saw them live last week and they were bloody brilliant - such a big cinematic, atmospheric and emotive sound. Here’s a taster:

Pumarosa - The Witch
Great debut album, really like this and looking forward to their stripped back acoustic release.

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - The Punishment Of Luxury

Harks back to their early stuff and influences, which is not a bad thing by my reckoning.

If you like ride check out a band called Nothing.

They used to be hardcore but have mellowed out and gone all shoe-gazery for the last album

Slim Pickens. Not the singer, the general state of affairs.

1. Gary Numan - Savage
2. Alison Moyet - Other

Slim Pickens indeed, bar the two above, particularly Numan’s which is simply magnificent.
