Hello gents.

I'm fairly new to this genre and have just made what I consider to be a quite spectacular compilation CD.
Every single track is worth a listen if you haven't heard some of these before, especially with a decent paid of headphones smile

1. Gunship - The Mountain
2. The Midnight - Lost Boy
3. Scandroid - Shout
4. FM-84 - Everything
5. FM-84 - Running in the Night
6. The Midnight - Los Angeles
7. Futurecop! - We Belong
8. Timecop 1983 - On the Run
9. Gunship - Revel in Your Time (Miami Nights 1984 Remix)
10. Scandroid - 2517
11. The Midnight - Endless Summer
12. Gunship - Tech Noir
13. FM-84 - Arcade Summer
14. The Midnight - Sunset
15. Scandroid - Neo Tokyo (Dance with the Dead Remix)
16. Gunship - Fly for Your Life

Just listening to it on TIDAL now...!

Edit: It's not their best stuff by a long way, found myself skipping several tracks, the first time I've done that on any of their albums. Shame, I'd been really excited to hear it and it's a real disappointment. Endless Summer & Days of Thunder are their best work I reckon.

It's less retro to me than their other albums.
Still a nice relaxing listen though. Good to have on in the background whilst working.

Yeah, not loving the new Midnight album either. It's a bit long compared to previous efforts and nothing really stands out so far. Maybe the novelty is wearing off. They have tried to do something a bit different with a more modern pop sound/beat on some tracks, but it is a bit dull.

Liking Electric Youth too - although TIDAL's saying 'Memory' is their third album (2019)... As well as 'Innerworld' (2014) they also released 'Breathing' (2017).

It was apparently meant to be the soundtrack to a film that never materialised so they made it their second album.

This has also lead me to Mitch Murder - After Hours. Loving it so far, superbly-produced.

I went watching them in Manchester a couple of years ago and dragged a mate along. Was expecting a fairly quiet affair but the Albert Hall was packed to the rafters! They said over the Mic it was the biggest crowd they'd ever played to. The versatility of Nikki Flores playing guitar, then bass, then singing some songs.... and very pleasant on the eye too! That mate is now obsessed with them more than I am.

The genre is getting massive. I love GUNSHIP; ex members of Fightstar... I don’t think they have one bad song; which is an impressive feat (GUNSHIP that is, not Fightstar)

They’re putting out their second album soon. The first album has a trailer, to give you a taste; all officially licensed retro footage too!

like a bit of Gunship

this particular video is one for me, its just a bit mesmerising. I makes me feel wistful. For what I don't know, but its a nice feeling.

This genre has a special place in my heart....

A friend's wedding in L.A. in 2015 gave me the opportunity to travel to California, hire a black mustang and cruise the empty canyon roads of Malibu one summer's eve, whilst blasting Kavinsky's Outrun.

Here I stopped for an atmospheric (albeit slightly blurry) photo in Decker Canyon, overlooking the PCH:

I haven't listed to synthwave for a while, but as soon as my 190e 2.3-16 is up and running again, that's all I'll be playing...

Anyone remember New Retro Wave cars on YouTube? I met with the chap who filmed it, I almost had my Mercedes featured until it spun a bearing...

Happy listening synthwave fans smile

A selection of heavier/darker stuff:

DWTD + Scandroid:

ZETA (with Daniel Tompkins of TesseracT fame):

And a bit of stretchy wildcard but I think The Birthday Massacre stray into this category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJrtoz66pZ0
happened across Dance with the Dead earlier this month and have liked Gunship for quite some time so having just stumbled across this thread and will have to take my time reading/listening to a lot of the stuff mentioned

Another one to add to the list: PRIZM: https://prizmwave.bandcamp.com/

Bit more 'pop' than the likes of Gunship or Scandroid but very enjoyable.

It's 80's based music with a modern take, quite atmospheric in places and energetic in others.
based on this description I'd hazard a guess that VNV Nation falls nicely into this thread?

Thought I'd try Gunship based on this thread.

Tech Noir is an epic tune eh?
