A mate of mine is the bass guitarist with this lot. It's his job! They are very good, pro musicians.
Their gigs tend to cover a few eras, with all of them changing constumes.
I've seen the real thing several times over the years, and they do a pretty good job, and im a amateur pub gigging guitarist myself, so know a bit

Livewire ACDC seem pretty good. They have both Bon Scott and the new singer in the band and use the right one for each song. Until the finalie then both come out.

Their Anugus though looks about 6ft 6" tall, which at first seems wrong then you get used to it and he is really a character.

But what did really grate and I just couldn't get over. The bassist was wrong handed. Looked and played and sang perfect, but just couldn't get over every time I saw him "that" was the giveaway (apart from the venue, price, dead people on stage) that I wasn't watching the real ACDC.

I once flew Glasgow - Brizzle on a day ACDC were playing somewhere down that neck of the woods. There were about 40 Angus on the plane. That must have been some day at the check in desk.

We’ve got into these quite seriously, a combination of comedy gig pricing for massive venues that take up hours and involve travelling hours, as opposed to nipping into town to a much better venue to see tributes of bands we’ve already seen anyway. You often get to chat to them afterwards too in exchange for the fourteen-odd quid you’ve paid to get in.

Guns or roses - brill.
Nirvana Uk - truly brill
Pearl skam - brill
Dire straits Uk - guy doesn’t really sound like knophler but still brill
Jules Benjamin billy Joel - brill
Stipe R.E.M. - stunning
Flash queen - brill
Smyths - brill
Southmartins - brill

I love Tragedy-an all metal tribute to the Bee Gees.
Now that sounds like a good night out!

Do they have to pay royalties?

Going to see Steemy Dan tonight. They are astonishingly true to the originals. Even had a seal of approval from Elliot Randall.

I checked here a couple of time hoping that by now someone would have pointed out that tribute bands are the naffest of the naff naff. But dissapointed once again.

Seen the Kate Bush tribute called cloudbusting who are excellent. Also saw the counterfeit quo when I was on a cruise ship a few years back. I believe they have had an original member in the lineup on occasion.

Thing with these bands is they really have to be to good as the audience will accept nothing less..

There's a couple of yes tributes out there I'd go out of my way to see, Seyes and Fragile. It's a brave band that contemplates playing their music live.

How about this for an idea- don't go to see any tribute bands if you don't like them. Some of them are really good and deliver a good, fun, show.

Maiden Scotland are worth a watch and they're touring at the moment, I'll be seeing them here in Aberdeen in a few weeks time.

They are. Generally they're cheese and cringe personified. But with an uncynical and light heart they can be a bit of fun on occasion.

I saw "Straighten Out", a Stranglers tribute band at a local venue a few years back. Generally pretty good, though the sound balance was awful on that night, and the audience very small which won't have helped matters. Get a lot of good reviews within Stranglers fan circles, though.

I've only seen a couple of tribute acts - The Rubber Plants ('cos a mate-of-a-mate played with them; they were good) and AB/CD (which was just so-so as the singer forgot his contact lenses).

But what I wonder is, is there a band that could be considered un-impersonable?

I'm not a musician but doesn't it take a lot of talent to play someone else's songs and sound like them at the same time? It seems to me that not any old numpty can do it. What's even more astonishing is when they look like the band too. Witness the Steve Marriott from the Small Fakers and the Keith Moon from Who's Who.

The one you missed out was, you also have to really absolutely love the band's music. Can you imagine playing it, and nothing else, at every gig you played if you didn't? I'm sure I couldn't do it; however big a fan I was I think the lack of variety would drive me mad after a while.
