I have seen the Australian Pink Floyd at the O2 and though they were great. Is that who you ment?

I believe Dave Gilmore has seen the Australian Pink Floyd and agreed that they were very good.
Its a bit better than that, they actually played at Gilmore's 50th Birthday party
Though very competent I didn't think either of the Floyd tribute bands were particularly good. The problem is when a tribute band becomes so close to the band they're copying they have no identity of their own. Now you might say that's the point, but that just means closer scrutiny and awareness of the fact they're actually very good copyers, and that can just make you feel a little...flat.
My mate toured with Australian Pink Floyd for years as their drum tech, he was ousted when someone who had worked with the real Floyd became available, as he then wasn’t genuine enough.

This is often true. I've said before on this forum that I wouldn't cross the road to see a band playing covers, preferring to stay at home and put a record on. I might make an exception in the case of a tribute band though, as long as the band they were tributing (is that a word?) was

a) one I really, really liked

and

b) one it was no longer possible to actually see live.

Scotland's 'Ocean Colour Scheme'.
The Kar-Pets. (Although they aren't strictly a tribute band I assume)

I've been to see a few good tribute bands. Best part about some of them are the humourous names. Funniest one i remember was a tribute band to Biffy Clyro, they were from Glasgow i think, 'Iffy Giro', still makes me chuckle,if you know Glasgow at all? :-)

Some fantastic bands play it....Slipnowt, Mentallica etc etc

Tragedy are an amazing band, seen them a few times now.
Maiden Scotland probably the bast Maiden tribute I have seen.

Yes sorry by Oz Floyd I meant Australian pink floyd.

This is what I was getting at. They were pretty perfect with all the lights etc.
However, Mac floyd in the dingy upstairs of a random pub were much better -kind of authentic I guess. An artisan tribute band if you will!

I saw a band a recently called Wott the Hoople a tribute to Mott the Hoople in case you hadn't guessed.......They were awesome I was never a really fan of the original bands music however these guys have rocked the original tracks up. Another positive is they don't try and look like the original band either!

Not really a tribute band as such, well a tribute to the 80s perhaps, but we went to see 'Calling planet Earth' last night to see if we could get Covid.
They just do 80s stuff and were absolutely bloody fantastic. I'm quite a critical person, but couldn't fault them in any way. All 3 'frontmen'/woman could sing well and they also put on a bit of a show too with some comedic bits here and there. They must be pros, rehearse or just simply do this a heck of a lot as they were very polished and belted out the hits for 2hrs
For more info look at their FB page, I don't think i've read one poor review on there.

Oh and the woman cloud9

I saw The Antarctic Monkeys at a festival last summer, they were absolutely brilliant.

A very well observed tribute, even down to the faux Alex Turner American accent on some of the more recent material.

Definitely worth a watch if you like the AMs, they play all over: http://www.antarcticmonkeys.com/am/Gigs.html

These are the only tribute band I've seen.

As the chances of seeing the Eagles live are now zero, I went to see the Illegal Eagles and they were actually very good (and good fun, they don't take themselves too seriously, but do take the performances seriously, exactly what you want!).

I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of tribute bands, but I'd recommend The Illegal Eagles if you do fancy some live Eagles material.

I saw the Eagles in Dubai a few years back and have seen the illegals a few times... I honestly think you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference, they are on another level as a tribute band and absolutely worthy of a night out.

Locally I've also seen Coldplace a few times as well who are very very good (again I've seen the real thing and the tribute is close!)

I never had an interest in such bands but many years ago I went to a festival and there was a club night after all the big bands had played that put on a few tribute bands.

I can't remember their names, there was a Cure and a Joy Division one. Both were superb, great fun.

I've also seen a couple of Smiths ones, one being The Smyths. I've seen them 4 or 5 times at Glastonbury and they've always been one of my favourite bands to see there!

The singer goes as far as quoting Morrissey verbatim between songs....but he also has a joke with it telling the audience to stay away from the burger vans, and pulling his shirt down to show a nipple mid song. laugh

Whole Lotta Led have been doing their wonderful stuff for so many years they are on their farewell tour.

Endorsed by Jimmy Page they are fantastic and if you've never seen them you've missed a treat.

The Standard in Walthamstow was a great venue that became a tribute special host. Limehouse Lizzie there was a magic night out. Boy was it loud there though.

I was tempted to go an see Kingdom of Madness (Magnum tribute band - is it still a tribute band if it's stuffed with ex-members?) but the dates don't work for me frown

Letz Zep are very good, as were Hi On Maiden (like the guy above I saw them 15 odd years ago).

The Counterfeit Stones do/did their show covering all eras, complete with costume changes and Spinal Tap-esque videos during the changes.

Has anyone seen Bootleg Blondie?

They're playing locally later this year and I thought I may give them a go.

ETA I went to see London Calling, the Clash Tribute, earlier this year - They're good fun, although not as good as the Illegal Eagles.
