Rod Stewart's work with The Jeff Beck Group was astonishing. I find it a shame that he didn't stick with blues and went to MOR crap.

Then again, my favourite Stewart vocal is on Ol' Man River from Jeff's Truth album.
I've always thought the best showcase for his voice was In A Broken Dream by Python Lee Jackson.

O/T what happened to them? That's such a good song.

Maybe relevant for PH, I'm sure I read that he didn't get paid money for doing that vocal, but was given a Jensen Interceptor that belonged to someone who was in the band.

I didn't realise they were a band; I thought they were a group of session musicians put together to record the song. I'm sure I read that 'Python' was a pseudonym for Stewart (nudge nudge wink wink). Oh how we learn. Interesting similarity with AC/DC; Australian band founded by ex-pat Scots; but PLJ never achieved the same level of success.

I've not heard of Python Lee Jackson, but I've just listened to on yootoob and it's very good indeed!

IMO still not as good as Stewart's take on this, though:

Ol' Man River

Then again, his vocal work on the whole Truth album is fantastic; honourable mentions for Rock My Plimsoul and Morning Dew.

I've always thought Layne Staley (Alice in Chains) was underrated

Sorry but Roger Daltrey has never been a good singer and when you listen to Paul Rodgers trying to do Freddie Mercury songs it just enforces his limited range

A Paul Rodgers/Queen crossover was always a daft idea. But horses for courses; I can't imagine Mercury doing Free or Bad Company songs.

Actually my first line says good singers and that was exactly what I meant. It turned into a list of people who could put a song across but are not necessarily good singers. For instance Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker and Paul Rogers. Maybe good rock singers but not good singers per se. Like I said Bing Crosby was phenomenally popular but no one would say he was a good singer. He was a crooner.

Scott Stapp - Creed. One last breath and With arms wide open are both fantastic ballads

David Draiman - Love Disturbed in general but Sound of Silence is immense

Also, slightly off on a tangent Serj from System Of A Down love Chop Suey

Scott Stapp has a really great voice. I hope that Creed will get back together (again) one day.
