Good rock singers
Discussion
No mention yet of Dan McCafferty, from Nazerath. Great gravelly blues-rock voice, and I understand Axl Rose was a massive fan - hence his own 'rough' delivery (Rose and Slash were both Nazerath fans).
Edited to add: Forgot Danny Bowes from Thunder - another great blues-rock vocalist.
Some greats already mentioned - Lzzy Hale, Cornell, Coverdale, Mercury, Rogers, Halford, Bon Scott, Brian Johnson...
...and yet for every one there's a Dylan, Neil Young, David Bowie, Bryan Ferry, etc - not great singers per se, but (rightly) some of the greatest legends nonetheless.

Also check out Molly Sides (Thunderpussy) and Dorothy Martin (Dorothy, especially from the "Rockisdead" album) and Delilah Paz (The Last Internationale)https://youtu.be/A6fVOw8eATA
I always thought Courtney Love was underrated, but I think that's just me
None are Lzzy Hale though...
Mention Marillion and everyone immediately thinks "Fish" but I actually prefer Steve Hogarth
here's a live version of "The Great Escape" from the Brave album, utterly astonishing passion....

James Dewar who was the Bass Player and Vocalist with Robin Trower had a beautiful voice

Yes; despite Marillion's Genesis-ripoff tag, Fish was more Peter Hamill than Peter Gabriel.here's a live version of "The Great Escape" from the Brave album, utterly astonishing passion....

A friend of mine asked this question of a classically trained singer he knows who does some singing teaching on the side and has quite eclectic taste. Apparently he finds most rock singers irritating because they often seem to have a good sense of the sound required but hopeless technique. But he did rate Bruce Dickinson and Rob Halford.
This is more the answer to the question I asked, not jus a list of singers you think are good rockers which is what most of the replies have been. I mean, Ringo Starr? You are kidding, right?Ruth Rack said:
