Not a big fan of the C&D oeuvre but part of my childhood nonetheless and 74 is no age to go.

It does seem to present an opportunity for his band mate to tour as "Dave". I cannot help but think Chas would find that amusing.

Barry Memorial Hall... first time I heard of and heard Albert Lee.

Sad news.

I saw them live, great fun band.
Did you know they supported Led Zep at Knebworth in 1979.

RIP Chas.

Beaten to it!

Heard of the group but had no idea he was a member. Will have to have a listen.

An underappreciated musician.

Here, in a bonkers pub band, with Phil Lynott, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan. Phil almost falling over the bar laughing!

It was earlier than that. It was just a live album 1981 "Live at Abbey Road"

My memory is rather blurry but I'm sure I saw them supporting The Libertines many years ago.

And me.

Off Topic - I think it was the last time Zepellin performed in the UK in their original form.

"Chas & Dave: Last Orders" >>>> https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01nkdsv/cha...

Documentary which highlights cockney duo Chas & Dave's rich, unsung pedigree in the music world and a career spanning 50 years, almost the entire history of UK pop. They played with everyone from Jerry Lee Lewis to Gene Vincent, toured with The Beatles, opened for Led Zeppelin at Knebworth - and yet are known mainly just for their cheery singalongs and novelty records about snooker and Spurs.

I can't recall ever hearing them aside from as a bit of a joke (born in 77 so maybe missed them a bit), but decided to put their 'gold' album on after seeing this thread... what a great sound! I might be a new fan.

Good news.

Old Dog and Me is a great tune if you don't know it. Vocals by Dave.

I love that idea of Chas to write songs he could sing in his own voice. And rope Dave in to help. And Mick of course on the drums.

Give it some stick, Mick.

To maximise revenue on Jamboree Bag (made up of covers and public domain songs) they created original interludes between songs. Only people with a very serious understanding of the music industry would go about something like that.

Hasn't been mentioned but the Bass line on "My Name Is" by Eminem is Chas and Dave...

It was mentioned in the BBC doc on the other night, it was used in a Wu Tang Clan song too.

I've grown up thinking of them as nothing more than a novely act (Snooker Loopy didn't help) but that documentary really opened my eyes to just how good they really were.
