I have heard people say 'never trust a teetotaler'. I don't trust anyone that says the Beatles were crap.
I've not read through the thread fully but their career and music influenced and continues to influence every facet of popular music.

They have had their moments though. Some 'Worst Beatles Tracks' Taken from various lists:
Revolution 9
Mr Moonlight
Maggie May
Ob La Di Ob La Da
Yellow Submarine
Wild Honey Pie
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Why Don't we do it in the Road.

Disparaging remarks about the Beatles tend to come from those who don't know what the world was like before them. It's the same story for a lot of trailblazers. Lady Chatterly's Lover seems a bit tame now too. No one remembers what the fuss was about.
For my money the only crap thing about the Beatles is their name.

It's all relative though - most artists today would kill to write something along the lines of the Beatles' worst tracks.Revolution 9
Mr Moonlight
Maggie May
Ob La Di Ob La Da
Yellow Submarine
Wild Honey Pie
Maxwell's Silver Hammer
Why Don't we do it in the Road.

(LCL. Remember one of my school friends had a copy and showed me a 'dirty page' which was completely lost on me, but I sniggered anyway).

John Lennon interview: ' Is Ringo Starr the best drummer in the world? ', 'No he's not even the best drummer in the Beatles'.
Incorrect. Recent research has proved that he never said it; Jasper Carrott attributed it to him.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDXaq6c_UWY

I've long suspected that Jasper Carrott is an appalling tt, good to have it confirmed.
I've always like Jasper Carrott, but it'd be interesting to see if it REALLY did appear in any of his TV programmes...Maybe this is another myth? I suspect he wasn't wearing any shoes when he said it, if he did
M
That programme with Howard Goodall is great.

I actually meant, come up with a better name for the Beatles, not just list bands with better names.

And of course it needs to be in an early 1960s context.
Difficult.I've spent ages trying. It's not as easy as I thought.
It doesn't make the name The Beatles any better.
