I often sit on an evening listening to back catalogue stuff, rock / metal mostly and I have to pinch myself that Appetite for Destruction was released in 1987!!!!!!

Still stands as for me the best rock debut album of all time and arguably one of THE debut albums of all time I wore this out and then i got me thinking as I flip through othe rstuff

Dokken - Beast from the East a superb live album - 1988!!!!!!!
WASP - The Headless Children - still stands today because of the superb production and layering of the tracks 1989
Extreme - Pornograffiti - utterly brilliant and although their third album launched them into the stratosphere 1990
def leppard - hysteria again an album produced to within an inch of its life but still sounds so good today - 1987
Whitesnake 1987 erm....1987
Iron Maiden Live after Death perhaps THE definitive live metal album - god I wore that vinyl out - 1985!!!
Metallica Master of Puppets
Anthrax - Spreading the disease
Megadeth - Peace sells....

it probably says more about me and my youthful music tastes but those were good times - I'm older than I thought obviously...

in the non metal genre albums Like REM Automatic for the People, Paul Simon Graceland etc still sound as good today as they did back then

bad company
