I had a site meeting earlier today, and I convinced our Project Manager to drive there and back as I couldn't be arsed and could chill out in the passenger seat.

Anyway.

He's 29 and has his radio tuned to BBC R1 (by contrast, I'm rapidly approaching 50 ( yikes ) and listen to BBC R3), and at one point a tune by a guy called Shawn Mendes was played called "Senorita". I thought it was rather good, and earlier managed to find the guitar tab for it. For a current song, it's pretty good if you fiddle around with the basic chords and shows that there is still some good stuff - musically - in the charts.

If anyone is interested, I played:-

Am7 / C6 / Fmaj7 / Em7b5 / G

Pop stars have got better looking that's for sure, years ago anyone could be a popstar no matter what they looked like.

OMG pass the mind bleach!

OTOH it didn't stop him writing and singing one of the greatest songs of all time, and arguably THE best Chrimbo song ever.

Pick it up from 4mins and witness one of the greatest keys solo and player.

Check out Jacob Collier too

There are other threads about these guys.
Not lazy or boring!

Thanks for those links.

Neither are really what I'd normally consider "my kind of music" although the older I get, the less I'm sure what is my kind of music as I'm listening to a much wider range now than when younger (I'm a little north of 50 these days).

Used to be into heavy metal then indie stuff during the 80's and 90's, but more recently got into blues (as learning the harmonica), and some newer bands that have already been mentioned - The National, Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Bon Iver etc, as well as some unusual ones I've come across from buying CDs that I don't know from charity shops - Icecream Hands, Eels, Hootie and the Blowfish, Lene Marlin, Flaming Lips etc..

What is clear though in those videos linked above is that both are quite exceptional pieces of work with some amazingly talented musicians, and I really enjoyed them.

In terms of this thread, I think that the stuff played on "normal" Radio and in the "charts" or whatever they are called these days, is very un-inspiring, however, as has been said by several people on here, there is now a much much wider range of music available to us, it just takes a bit of effort and time finding it, although plenty of ideas have already been posted to get people (e.g. the OP) started.

The thing is though, apps like Spotify, and even to an extent YouTube can turn up interesting performers that you may not know, based on other stuff you've been listening to. It's always worth playing a track or 2 from those suggested, as if you spend a bit of time listening, you end up going down no end of rabbit-holes and coming across all sorts of music.

...anyway, as I said, thanks for those links above!

Some of Snarky Puppy’s output can take a while. There’s a couple of albums with singers featured.
Here’s a few easier tracks for you

Cory Henry’s solo on lingus is one of my favourite solos. Absolute class.

Isn’t it just. You just can’t help but marvel and enjoy it. Gutted when I saw them play a couple of years back he wasn’t on. Jacob Collier guested on it.

The music was awful. Seemed to be a lot of 'You're my we, yeah you like it' black rappers singing about their girlfriends. A lot of the younger people were 'dancing' but looked very awkward moving to the music.
It has to be the worst period for 'music' ever.
Black rappers... as opposed to white rappers ‘singing’ about the exact same stuff? PistonHeads = old farts unite.

hehe

When I was young my grandparents thought my parents had poor taste in music. My parents hated my music. Now I don’t get my son’s taste in music.

I think everyone feels more 'comfortable' with the music of their own 'era.'

Although looking back, I have to concede that the music of my era was no less st than any other.

IS this talentless & lazy? 32 year old vocalist, daughter of a jazz drummer, voice like silk, won't ever trouble the charts.

She won't sound like that live.

Just briefly listened to a few of her tracks. It's not an easy listen.

I saw her live on Wednesday & I'm delighted to report you don't know what you're talking about.

Agreed

Mary Spender is far easier on both the eye and ear

Of the three of us, only I have seen her perform live, so it's off the chart weird that you would agree she couldn't repeat it live with someone who hasn't when someone who has rebuts the suggestion.

What an artist looks like has fk all to do with anything & bringing it onto proceedings is indicative of a certain way of thinking & moreover, Mary Spender isn't a remotely comparable artist. Some very entrenched attitudes on here.

I can hear a big difference between the studio recording and live performances of other tracks posted on YouTube.

Each to their own, but I couldn't listen to her for long. I find the shrieking annoying.

I've got a very wide taste in music and usually I can understand why artists I don't like do well. Equally I can see why Hannah has a very niche following.

I did nothing of the kind. Calm down and read who posted what before getting confrontational.
