ll. Equally I can see why Hannah has a very niche following.
You sure are all over the zeitgeist. Shrieking. laugh

That's not the real top 40. She hasn't had a top 75 album in the charts.

That is a subcategory. I guess it does look good that she's in with some big names.

Frank Turner albums don't stay near the top of the proper charts for the best part of a year.

You don't need to sell many albums to get into the charts these days.

Why the defensive effort, the upset and now trying to mislead?

What makes you think I'm trying to mislead when I haven't made a comment on what that chart is? And why can't you accept an assurance from someone who watched her perform for an hour last week? Do you not like women? Is that why you feel compelled to describe her voice as 'shrieking'?

WTF???????? I don't like women on the basis of saying I don't like a single singer? Have a word with yourself.

Why does your opinion of seeing her live overrule everything else? Can't we judge someone on videos? You felt the need to link one for us to judge.

What makes me think you tried to mislead? You posted a picture to prove she was not a niche market. You posted a screenshot of The Official Charts and didn't feel the need to highlight the chart was a niche category and not actually the official chart that everyone recognises.

You're not right.

I can see I'm in the presence of a genius here. I posted a picture, professor to show that I was at a gig. Anything else is your fevered imagination. Now let's consider this again:

She won't sound like that live.

Just briefly listened to a few of her tracks. It's not an easy listen.
1) She did, I was there & you weren't. 2) 'Briefly' 3) You called her voice 'Shrieking' which is bizarre even by the antediluvian standards of this place when set against someone whom a bunch of hard pressed record companies have seen fit to hand out contracts to record three albums. Which leads us to 4) A hidden agenda you may wish to explain.

The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same thing.

As a three-chord wonder who can just about bash out Wonderwall I take my hat off to any ‘musician’ who actually writes and performs their own music. There is nothing lazy or talentless about that, not everyone can do it. It takes a lot of time and effort to master a musical instrument to the standard to perform in public or on record, so nobody who can do that is lazy or talentless by any measure.

I’m 47 and do a lot of gigs and festivals (until we had our 4yo I was doing 50 gigs and 8 festivals a year) and like to feel I’ve got my finger vaguely on the pulse of what is popular. ‘The kidz’ like what they like, and it’s mostly not what I like, it was ever thus, it’s generally not cool to like your parent’s music! There are of course exceptions to that - I thank my Dad for a lifelong love of The Eagles because their Greatest Hits was a permanent fixture on the tape deck of the family Austin Montego in the late 80’s!

My beef with the current (streaming-led) music business is that young, talented musicians often struggle to get heard, whereas formulaic X Factor dross dominates popular radio, the key difference being that most of these people are performers, not musicians. Yes, they can hold a tune, but many don’t know one end of a fret board from another. We’ve got Simon Cowell to thank for that, personally I refuse to watch his stty shows for how I feel they’ve ruined the charts.

The short answer to the OP is to find a better radio station. There are loads out there, either conventional broadcasters or online stations.

Aren't you the genius? You've managed to attack me for something I didn't even say, deciphered that I'm a women hater and have an agenda against a person I had never heard of before in my life before you posted a link.

Her live YouTube videos don't sound like the tweaked studio recording. There is a clear difference to me.

If you are trying to gain Hannah fans you aren't doing well. We'd know we would be in a small crowd with a complete psychopath. It doesn't sound safe.

I couldn't care less what you like & I'd be delighted never to bump into you at any show, it would have me questioning my tastes. I object to some drive by random pronouncing judgement from a position of ignorance based on a handful of ten second dips into years old videos.

Maybe you just couldn't grasp the elegant song writing this time. Of how the bridge reverses the chorus from Bm7 to A to E & then adds a F# & an A in the coda to completely alter the mood or maybe you did grasp all of that & still managed to smash the word shrieking on your keyboard. It's just a mystery lost to the sands of time.

I think "shrieking" is a bit strong - to me she sounds more like the squeaky noise you get when rubbing a balloon. I certainly couldn't make it through a whole track of that though - it's mind-numbingly bland, music-wise.

I'd never heard of her, so I had a listen on Youtube; I'm sure there are any number of subtle nuances and great techniques in the music, but I couldn't get past the fact that I found her voice massively irritating. I dare say a lot of what I listen to would horrify you as well though, so no offence intended laugh

I don't really get how modern music relates to the lives of the young people who listen to it these days. Back in the 90's I was listening to the Inspiral Carpets singing about driving around a council estate hanging out the side of Ford Cortina chatting up girls. This I can relate to.

I don't get how any working class kid from a rough estate or some middle class suburban lad living in his parents 4 bed detached house at the end of a cul-de-sac has anything to relate to when snoopy snoopy dog dog is ranting on about his 5.0, bouncing on his hydrolic suspension talking about drug deals and slapping wes. We've taken the lowest common denominator from an American sub-culture alien to our own and somehow jumped on board. Don't get me started on the rise of this UK grime garbage.

Even my 18 year old son tells me I'm so lucky to have been young during the indie scene. He tends to listen to a lot of what I call my music. Editors, Stone Roses, etc.

I deliberately held off commenting on this until all the name-calling had died down somewhat, but have to admit that I too found the music bland, and the squeaky voice irritating.

Actually I find most pop vocalists (I won't dignify them by calling them 'singers') irritating. I'm no fan of Frank Zappa, but I agree with him on this one - 'shut up and play yer guitar.'

(Although, come to think of it, it could be unwise to get me started on the horrible noise some people manage to make with guitars.)

There was a particularly awful one at the end of an episode of House. Sounded like a kazoo player trying to pretend to be a guitar, playing through a broken Pignose amplifier. Blind drunk.

Were they all actually in the same room, or photoshopped to look like they were after recording their parts entirely separately and to different backing tracks?

You know what, they could have been considering they're 4 of the most in demand session musicians on the planet.

I don't trainspot musicians. I doubt I'd recognise most of the ones whose output I actually like, let alone a group of session players.

Props to the bloke at the front for turning up in a TellyTubbies outfit though. wink
