This has my vote, my fave all time song and has been since for the past 20 years.
Couldn't agree more. It is absolute perfection to me.

How can we have an XXL track collection without one of the first songs which fills an entire a-side :

In-a-gadda-da-vida by Iron Butterfly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIVe-rZBcm4&pb...

Not only the -quite melodic- drum solo, but the guitar and organ parts are still good to hear.
Well that's a great version!

Now - are we all forgetting the greatest antidote to the concept album? Thick as a Brick

+1 - great track.

Just about anything by the Orb over 9 minutes, Little Fluffy Clouds Live is probably my favourite.

I Feel Love - Donna Summer (The 15min remix) - yum, yum.

Pete Namlook ( RIP ) is another ambient master, ( someone mentioned Eno ), just about anything is worth mentioning, Dark Side of the Moog; though this takes me back:

oof. - love it.

I recognise the name, there was a great documentary on the BBC recently about him, Terry Riley etc. I'd never heard of them before.

Yes indeed, I saw it and saw a concert version based on that show recently. Steve Reich is great.
You might like Terry Riley’s Rainbow in curved air. Difficult to think it was recorded in the late sixties. Seen this live too!

It's probably been mentioned, but if not, how have we forgotten "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)"?

As another old duffer I agree with you choice of album though I'm a little more partial to 4, 5 and 6

My kind of thread.

I adore long songs, and fortunately many of my favourite artists seem to specialise in them. I find most of these quite hard to listen to in isolation as they're generally part of a greater whole; particularly the Orbital track. Just a small selection definitely missing some of my favourites..

Enslaved - Lifandi Lif Undir Hamri (I could almost include the whole Vikingligr Veldi album, just one song is too short. Same with Hordanes Land EP also, I think). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Htgfo5LBsJA

Underwiorld - Dark and Long (Dark Train remix) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brZ_WBEzw6E

Faithless - Salva Mea (I forget this is their debut, what a song..) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aSVNLYMWjA

My Dying Bride - Cry of Mankind https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-UE-KbCQD8

The Prodigy - Narayan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE4_5ka2K0U

Burzum - Det Som Engang Var https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wry9G6rcdQw

Orbital - Spare Parts Express https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5tVIcYsMJc

Most of these I rarely listen to, I can still remember my initial feelings when hearing them. So much good music out there, so little time.

Windir - Svartesmeden og lundamyrstrollet (The Blacksmith and the Troll of Lundamyri) https://open.spotify.com/track/1mw7aHYBqRBViEcrK1s... Some of the best black metal ever written imho.
That is a nice song. I stupidly ignored Windir for about 10 years, probably 5 years either side of Valfar's death. I'm picky when it comes to 'Viking' stuff, and given the hype around Windir I didn't think it would be to my style. Some great original work by them.

Thanks for posting that, almost brought a lump to my throat watching it, it looks and sounds like it was filmed last week not forty one years ago!
