^ That led me to this:-Best guitar duel ever! Joe Bonamassa and Eric Gales~John Henry
Brilliant work using harmonic minor / phrygian flavours in a blues tune. Very clever.
Talking of clever guitar work, have we had this yet? :-

Solo starts @ 2:19
Larry Carlton at his jazzy, creative best.
A rather unknown one but the the sorta blues on steroids and then some solo in 'The Doctor' by The Answer is absolutely fantastic.

Brian May is rather impressed by Nuno Bettencourts solo in Extreme's "Get the funk out".

Stevie Ray Vaughan at a sound check

I love it at the start, where he just pitches up, straps on his Strat, yawns, then launches full throttle

Jimmie?
Doubtful
A bit more pedestrian than Stevie, but still a great handle on trad blues

There are a lot of great solos posted here, but when I think of Face Melting I tend to think of the likes Shawn Lane.
Sadly most of the live recordings of him seem to have been filmed on potatoes, but it's still great to have them. He made beautiful music in his time, but for "Face Melting" I proffer Time is The Enemy:

It has the kind of quality you get when a saxophonist is putting the hammer down and going on a voyage.
And for sheer joy, The Way it Has To Be:

When someone asks for a real face melter then Dimebag always comes to mind - that mixture of speed and technique but he mixed it with some real, excuse the cliche, feeling. Gary Moore in the same bracket. And zakk wylde, though he is pretty tasteless a lot of the time these days - his solo on No More Tears is as good as anything ever recorded and is the very definition of a 'face melter' . And Tornado of Souls by Megadeath. Not a huge fan of the band but that solo.....
Anyway, my true contributions are going to be a bit more leftfield as most things have been mentioned.

A Richie Sambora song would be a fairly obvious place for a great guitar solo. Ironically it's Eric Clapton melting faces on this one! If you don't do a 'blues face' at the 2.33 mark then you're dead inside!
Speaking of Richie Sambora -

That is how you use a wah pedal!
Justin Hawkins randomly appearing on a dreadful Meatloaf song but knocking it out of the park with the solo -
https://youtu.be/lgdyvUry3F8
And for something completely different - Love Can Build a Bridge. Naff song with a pretty spectacular Clapton cameo.

Not necessarily my top picks at all, but wanted to put forward something different!
