Bought tickets for 1975 concert for wife & kids but...
Discussion
I bought tickets for 1975 concert on 26/2/20 at M&S Bank Arena Liverpool, they have my name on but are for my wife, daughter & her friend. I never even thought about this when I bought them but, having checked on the website, they make a big thing about the named person having to be there.
I have contacted Ticketmaster who passed me on to the box office at M&S Bank Arena Liverpool who basically said it is nothing to do with them as they did not sell the tickets.
I can understand they want to avoid touts but this cannot be an uncommon problem as lots of people must buy tickets as presents. I can give my wife my credit card & driving licence as proof of ID, and she has the same surname as me, so it is fairly obvious what has happened but I am concerned about some jobsworth on the door not letting them in.
Does anybody have any experience of this, ideally a similar situation, and how strict are they on the door?

They'll be fine. I've been to numerous concerts (inc. The 1975) with other people's names on and they literally just scan the barcode and in you go. There will be 10,000 people all trying to get in within a short space of time - they aren't bothered about names matching. They just say that to warn off touts.
Your wife can always take a print-out of the receipt if she's anxious.

I was at the Clapton tribute to Ginger Baker at the Hammersmith Apollo on Monday and they wouldn’t let you in without ID that confirmed the name on the tickets. Concorde 2 in Brighton is another venue that insists on ID.
I probably see a couple of gigs a week and don’t get asked often but it does happen.

Doubtful that they will ask to check as there will be thousands wanting to get in, checking everyone will cause a huge queue and backlog.
To be on the safe side though just give your wife a print off of the e-mail and your id.
I remember when the wife went to see Ed Sheeran at Wembley a couple of years ago, there was a huge thing made about all tickets and id being checked to discourage touts, I thought to myself no chance, they won't be checking 10's of thousands going in as logistically and time wise it will be an absolute nightmare, sure enough they weren't checking.

Ticketmaster has advice in their help section, a template for a letter of authorisation and a list of venues that will accept it.

Thanks for the feedback. I have contacted Ticketmaster again and they say that they have sent the name change to the box office so my wife can collect the tickets printed with her name on the night.
Hopefully this will all happen but I will also give her my ID, credit card etc and the Letter of Authorisation to be on the safe side.

I've never once been asked for ID. Most of the bands and venues I go to are not very big mind you. I did go the Liverpool Echo arena (or whatever it's called this week) to see The Beautiful South about 2 years ago and no one checked, all they did was can the tickets.
Then again, as you say, no one asked the missus anyway.
