Something I have always wondered, did something bad happen to Moby?
One minute he was making happy bangers like Next is the E, Feeling so real, Everytime you touch me, and collaborating on loads of uplifting tracks, then bang all of a sudden everything he comes out with is depressing slit your wrists pish.
Did something bad happen to him? Or one too many good nights out? It was a very noticable change.

Well Eminem gave his considered opinion:

And Moby, you can get stomped by Obie
You thirty six year old bald headed fag, blow me
You don't know me, you're too old, let it go its over
Nobody listens to Techno

He's discovered mindfulness. Does a lot of meditation tracks these days. Which is basically him leaning on a synth keyboard for 30 minutes... rather than the "increase BPM" button on his drum machine.

He's always been quite eclectic - I remember the Everything is Wrong album had techno, ambient and even shouty rock stuff on it. He had a new album out recently which again has a mix of stuff, though he does seem to be more interest in the ambient. Quite like his ambient stuff, well not the really ambient stuff!

He's into his animal rights/vegan stuff so much he now has slogans tattooed all over his body though. Just stick to the music!

Iirc his slightly creepy autobiography probably made him retreat from the spotlight a bit.

I think that's the last time I saw him mentioned in the mainstream news.

Reading his biography, it seems that for most of his 'heyday' he had a pretty sizeable cocaine and general drug habit, aswell as serious family issues.

Seems to have sorted himself out now though, so probably just counting his millions and pursuing what he believes in.

Thank you for this. I have started listening to these, starting with Gregor, and they are truly lovely.

I saw moby support soundgarden in the mid 90s before he went all ‘techno’ ,his set was pure metal .

Gives away some of music for free nowadays (three of his ambient albums free for download here: https://moby.com/sleep-calm/ ).
I like his ambient stuff - it also appears to have become the soundtrack of choice for lots of yin/restorative yoga classes I go to - but gone are the days of feeling so real, go, next is the E and countless other classics that I grew up with.
Personally I didn't realise just how odd he was until I worked with him....and he appears to have got odder since. His book did him no favours either.

He is - in his own words - an ageing bald hippy, and he has made no secret of his activism and veganism, but absolutely no mistaking it with his recent tattoos:

Just had a quick surf of his ‘Long Ambients 2’ album.

I’m all for a bit of experimentation, and own a few Brian Eno albums, but the opening track is 47 minutes off him holding the same synth note. The album goes on for three and a half hours like this. Oh do fk off!

He was making techno first, and well before that, Go was 91 as was UHF and I'm sure others. He might have gone metal inbetween the techno and the more mainstream Play in the late 90s.

He's a bit of a dick but I don't care about the politics. Next is the E is a proper hair on the neck rusher.
