What bands 'should' have been bigger?
Discussion
The most obvious band is Cardiacs. Some of their stuff can jar but some of it is truly breathtaking.
Most bands that dont make it dont have the songs and some, like Thunder, are talented players/performers but have no tunes. Of the current lot I am surprised that Nothing But Thieves haven't become better known as they seem to have most of the boxes ticked but that sort of music is a minority interest now. My boys are more interested in rock from my generation than their own.

What a voice!
My kids, 9 and 8 year old boys, love them. Amsterdam and Sorry specifically from their most recent album.
My Morning Jacket deserved more. They supported Secret Machines, who I love, in the early 2000's. They were epic and probably bettered Secret Machines live, who were also fabulous.

The Real People - late 80's early 90's Liverpool band. Allegedly taught Noel Gallagher how to write songs.
Two of them ended up writing songs for other groups, but the band should have been massive - think of the sort of music they play on Abolute Radio, they fit in to that type of mould but more meoldic.
Good shout, I bought Window Pane on release, great track. Didn't really hear much of them after that, in my musical realm at least. Then Oasis and their cover-versions come along...ugh.Two of them ended up writing songs for other groups, but the band should have been massive - think of the sort of music they play on Abolute Radio, they fit in to that type of mould but more meoldic.
Rialto.
Superb cinematic sound, classic tunes, great lyrics.
Dropped by their record label when a new A&R man came in, first album held back by said label.
They get a new deal, secure the rights to the album, release it just as the first record label buys the second one and drops them again.

I used to listen to them.
I think a lot of the British heavy rock/metal scene of the 90s - wildhearts, therapy?, pitchshifter and so on was a gem that was largely ignored for whatever reason, I guess grunge was alt rocks "big thing" that the industry was behind, then it was the nu-metal thing, and I guess the industry and most of the listening public just don't care for more variety!
Pitchshifter were unbelievable. Fantastic live and their albums were consistently brilliant. Ahead of their time by a few years I think, can’t think of any other reason why they weren’t bigger than they were/are.I think a lot of the British heavy rock/metal scene of the 90s - wildhearts, therapy?, pitchshifter and so on was a gem that was largely ignored for whatever reason, I guess grunge was alt rocks "big thing" that the industry was behind, then it was the nu-metal thing, and I guess the industry and most of the listening public just don't care for more variety!
