Songs that tell a story
Discussion
Local Boy in the Photograph by Stereophonics is the one that always springs to mind:
'Kelly Jones explained the meaning of a few of his songs and said that "Local Boy in the Photograph" was based on the true story of local boy Paul David Boggis, who was killed by a train travelling between Cwmbach and Aberdare. All the songs on the album are about people and events in the Aberdare area'
From the album 'Word Gets Around'

No a Jimmy fan but this song always bring a tear to the eye, in no small part as I recall the Tyne and the era he refers to vividly. But it's also a very well crafted song and when Knopfler, the other Geordie, drops by it's pretty much perfect. Less so when Sting joins in.
I get itchy eyes, too, although my Grandfather worked on, and my father sailed from, a different big river on the other side of the Pennines. Similar stories, though, and we returned my old fella to the river after he died.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_519h95XFs

Nice, there's a shared kinship between Geordies and Scousers - my daughter lives there now (Orrel Park) and the people are fantastic probably even friendlier than Geordies, and it's a lovely city.'Ode To Billy Joe' by Bobby Gentry....

'Norwegian Wood' by the Fabs, written by Lennon about an affair he had, without letting on to his wife that he'd had the affair.

Might be stretching the definition of "song" but....

Highwayman - The Highwayman
Great bit of Cash, Jennings, Kristofferson and Nelson regaling another of Jimmy Webb’s finest.
The video is a bit dodgy and doesn’t particularly do the song justice, but you get 4 stories in one song at least
