And the band name before joy division.

I recall all the Nazi and anti semitism hooha over the various names.

Yes. Gillian Gilbert has been in New Order since the beginning. I believe she is married to drummer Stephen Morris.
Thank you, got it

Had forgotten how good this was.
Have heard that in the past, would never have guessed who it was

Was getting confused.

It was the Hook's Band Revenge who's album I own.

That's super!

I was lucky enough to see them supporting Buzzcocks (at Bournemouth Winter Gardens) on 2nd November 1979

Does anyone know who in Joy Division came up with the title Closer?
And is it closer, as in near to, or closer, as in the ending of / the last thing?
Always bugged me, after all these years that I don't know the answers...

Peter Hook pronounces it as the first meaning in this interview:

It’s a good question though, I’d never thought of the second meaning of the word and the poignancy of that and the tomb on the cover following Curtis’ suicide.

I think I read somewhere that the rest of the band just thought Ian's lyrics were just "poetry" and not from far deeper place...!

I've always thought it was the first, but heard a few interviews where they said it could mean the 2nd.

Just found this on BBC News website - "Joy Division: Photographer Kevin Cummins on photographing the post-punk icons"
Ian's daughter Natalie asking Kevin specifically, if he'd taken any pictures of her dad smiling...
