Rapture only made No5 (in the UK, at least).
The first rap UK No1 that I can think of was Don't stop (wiggle wiggle) by The Outhere Brothers in 1995.
There was also the fantastic opening rap by Melle Mel on Chaka Khan's I feel for you which made No1 in 1984.
An even more tenuous rap was short segement in the 1983 No1 Candy Girl by New Edition.
Sugar Hill Gang charted innthe UK in Dec 1979The first rap UK No1 that I can think of was Don't stop (wiggle wiggle) by The Outhere Brothers in 1995.

There are plenty of posts here that are plain wrong, but I don't think there's any point in a thread about "YOUR 'switch off' artists" in protesting.
One person's new messiah IS another's hellish demon, so people should just accept that their favourites will appear as someone else's switch off artist.

I've never seen anyone admitting to liking either U2 or Oasis. How do these bands make any money? Someone must listen to them?
Not being a die hard fan of either, I feel that I like both, and also dislike both. These bands have done fine works, but have sometimes released utter filler/drivel. Id put Red hot chili peppers in the same boat, and also many other artists.I think U2 are more guilty than most, but that's a personal opinion.
Pretty much any singer songwriter from 2000 onwards - all dross with zero musical talent (Jade Bird aside).
The Beatles (overhyped)
Elbow
Kings of Leon
Kate Bush
Biffy Clyro
I’m just pleased that we’ve got so many options with radio stations nowadays as well as streaming music. Gives me plenty of outs when some crap starts playing.

Rush and ELO.
I really can't see the attraction, but each to their own. Definite rush to the change channel button when these R2 favourites are played. I'm sure most will say or have said the same about my favourites.
R2 is playing Rush? HTF did I miss that? I may actually start listening to it.I really can't see the attraction, but each to their own. Definite rush to the change channel button when these R2 favourites are played. I'm sure most will say or have said the same about my favourites.
Or are we talking about Jennifer Rush?

You must not speak to any or many people.Oasis - of their time, but had a few good moments.

Yeah, I generally agree with that (I have no opinion on RHCP though, as I've never got more than 5 seconds into any of their tracks before skipping on).I think U2 are more guilty than most, but that's a personal opinion.
I would say, in the early days I was a U2 fan (I think Rattle & Hum, for example, is a brilliant album), but their later stuff isn't anything like as good.
Oasis always sound like a tribute to the 60s/70s band to me, but quite a good one - They've had some stand out tracks.
