ZZ Top - no effort, rang the performance in.
Soundgarden - played hyperfast, too loud, completely toneless.
Livewire(ACDC tribute band) - The Bon singer didn't sound or look remotely like him, and Angus tripped over a speaker doing his duckwalk and required help from a doctor in the audience for a huge gash on his shin.
Black Stone Cherry - the most forgettable band I've ever seen. Like the Ramones no song lasts over 3 minutes, but The Ramones were good.
Bad Company - lacklustre, expected so much more.
Dave Matthews Band - completely bland middle America rubbish.
ACDC with Axl Rose - Even the Geordie tt that can't sing would have been better.
Drop Dead Daisies - small intimate gig, so they played it virtually acoustic. Great.

Ha! My ex at the time got tickets for that on the back of 'Died in Your Arms Tonight'. What an awful, soulless experience that was.

Can't say I was expecting much to be fair, I was into Zodiac Mindwarp at that point.

Its just come to me, one THE most disappointing gigs was one of my earliest...

I was huge Rainbow fan, went to see them play Wembley Arena on the Down to Earth tour....

Gig was going pretty well, huge Cozy Powell solo (Im honoured to have seen that). and then allegedly, Ritchie Blackmore had the hump and they went off stage after about 70 minutes....

The crowd trashed the venue needless to say......

I was so disappointed.
Wow - I remember reading about that gig in 'Sounds' music paper and seeing the photos of the trashed chairs. Disappointing, as I was (and still am, I suppose) a massive fan of Blackmore's skills.

I used to have one of Cozy Powell's drumsticks that he'd thrown into a gig at a local venue. A drummer friend 'borrowed' it without asking, and his dog chewed it to pieces - I was fking furious. A brilliant drummer (Cozy, not the light-fingered friend) and a nice guy apparently. He was trying to arrange a Rainbow Rising reunion (and Dio and Blackmore were keen, supposedly) when he died and it fell apart.

Haha! No - he gave me back part of the end that was left... all three inches, complete with Staffie teeth marks. He was actually a decent drummer (I was in a band with him), but a couple of years later sold his (by then impressive) drumkit for some drugs. He got it the wrong way round - you get an expensive drug habit after you've become a rock god.... and then play for only 70 minutes.

Guns N Roses a couple of years back in London. I went as my brother was a fan, I wasn’t. I was hoping I would be won over; I wasn’t. Absolute tripe.
The Olympic stadium one in 2017? I was there; tripe is harsh but I do think the experience varied by where you were
Funny, I was at Slaine Castle for GNR and it was a good gig, but the sound was pretty poor there too.

Blue Oyster Cult, Newcastle City Hall in the mid 80's - after 20 minutes or so i went to the bar and watched the video jukebox instead! Dull beyond belief.

I saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon in (I think) 88, and they were bl**dy brilliant. I don't think they've aged well though.

Funny I saw them at The Rambling Man (Kent) in 2016 and loved them... I can, however, see why they'd be considered dull as their stage show wasn't exactly popping.

I saw them quite recently, and unfortunately they are support at a gig later this year I have tickets for. I'm not overwhelmed with excitement... .

Not a band but took my wife to see Emile Sande at Portsmouth Guildhall a couple of years ago. The venue didn't help as with the complete lack of staging and very poor bright lights it felt like a bad school production and i am sure that many school kids would not have screeched and warbled as badly as she did. Left half way through...truly awful!
I wish Emile Sande would do the world a favour and resume her medical studies.
I remember her at the 2012 Olympics. I'd liked some of her mainstream stuff. She was dire there & got switched off, same as the McCartney bit.

Queen+ Paul Rodgers in 2005 Wembley Pavilion.

Yep Pavilion. The Arena was being done up.

So shyte. So very very shyte. Even Brian May said it was shyte during the show. Mainly because of the Pavilion which was little more than a large tent in a car park.

By way of apology, everyone at the gig was then offered a free ticket to gig Queen put on at Hyde park later that summer. I declined the free ticket.

It was that bad.

and I am a huge Queen fan.

Well that's concerning. I have tickets to see Queen + Adam Lambert this year, or next year.

You could take over the singing yourself, Leo.

Either I’ve been really fortunate or just have low standards but have enjoyed every one of the loads of gigs I’ve been to over the years.

For me it’s as much about the night out and the atmosphere as it is about the music. For example I’ve seen Whitesnake a few times and always loved it, but I bet that if I heard a recording of the shows now they would sound awful.

Actually there was one big disappointment: Transvision Vamp. Obviously a hastily arranged tour to cash in on their success at the time, proper leering football type crowd and Wendy James neither looked or sounded that good.

PS ha ha at the show must go on joke above!
