Ralf Hutter's Volkswagen actually opens Kraftwerk's Autobahn.

Surely this is the ultimate 'vehicle in a song' as the car has a 'speaking part'.

Jackie Brenston & his delta cats, Rocket 88, generally considered to be the first rock n roll record https://youtu.be/WcFIj8OuIEI

(88 was a model of Oldsmobile, the engines of which were marketed using the name rocket).

We've had a few Beach Boys already, so we'll at Little GTO https://youtu.be/wIhYK4cSrQw and a cheat ! not specifically about a car, but the engine - 409 https://youtu.be/nQM4ybsjw-4

Around the same time Jan & Dean were also making surf music, like the beach boys there are numerous tracks that would be mentioned, probably the most famous? is Dead Mans Curve https://youtu.be/S1Cuekbklkg Ironically a couple of years later Jan Berry had a serious accident close to dead mans curve in Beverley Hills that put him in a coma for 2 months.

Paul Revere and the Raiders, SS 396
https://youtu.be/2DQHiWAgjW0

Also, 49' Mercury Blues (Brian Setzer), Brand New Cadillac (Vince Talyor + various covers),

Bit more up to date, Feeder - Buck Rogers "he's got a brand new car, looks like a jaguar.."

Gaslight Anthem - Old White Lincoln https://youtu.be/6_bQiIZXC9I also from them "Once Upon A Time" https://youtu.be/Wr2kEMNWPOw "I was drivin' a chevy 72.. it had four on the floor girl, a hundred twenty it would do.."

Richard Thompson - 1952 Vincent Black Lightning
Ah, you beat me to it! Pretty sure he has another song about his MGB GT (she's a runner now).
Also, The Jam - Saturday's kids
Drive Cortinas, fur trimmed dashboard. Stains on the seat - in the back of course!
Wasn’t the Vincent Black Lightning a motorbike? - sorry just checked it says vehicles so I guess a motorbike is a vehicle!

Great song nevertheless
And as a bonus it also mentions Triumphs, Beezas, Nortons, Arials and occasionally Greece's.

This reminded me - Depeche Mode sampled a motorbike engine on 'Stripped'.

Possibly my favorite DM song.

Citroen GS in the video.

https://youtu.be/qU8UfYdKHvs

DM have always had great car references in their videos, the Iseatta in 'Never let me down again', the Cortina in 'Useless'.

I think the Cult should get an honourable mention.

Although 'She sells sanctuary' isn't about cars or has cars in it the song is so inexorably linked to the Audi RS6 courtesy of Layer Cake that I can't imagine anything else when I hear it!

Bob Seger - Night Moves

“ Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy”

One of my favourite driving songs to listen to on a summer evening drive.
